HR Specialist

Now, more than 40 years later, we have grown from modest beginnings to become one of North America’s largest, privately held, fully integrated recyclers of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.

Our growing enterprise operates 27 facilities across North America, including Canada, the United States, and Mexico, with additional interests in Europe. Our established and far-reaching geographic network allows us to serve customers from local peddlers to large international organizations with customized recycling solutions.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical HR Specialist to support and enhance key HR operations across the organization. This role plays a critical part in HR data management, reporting, compensation processes, and employee lifecycle administration.

The HR Specialist will leverage HR systems, including Ceridian Dayforce, to generate insights, improve processes, and support decision-making, while partnering closely with HR Business Partners across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

HR Systems & Data Management

  • Maintain and optimize HRIS (Ceridian Dayforce) data integrity, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all employee records
  • Manage electronic employee files and ensure compliance with record-keeping standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, workflows, and data management practices
  • Act as a key user for HR platforms including Dayforce, Intellis, M-Files, and Beekeeper

HR Reporting & Analytics

  • Own and deliver HR reporting and analytics to support business decision-making
  • Extract, analyze, and interpret workforce data using HRIS tools
  • Prepare reports including headcount, turnover, overtime trends, and compensation metrics
  • Support annual processes such as salary reviews, STIP/LTIP preparation, and budgeting
  • Identify trends and provide insights to support workforce planning

HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle

  • Administer employee lifecycle changes including hires, promotions, transfers, leaves, and terminations
  • Coordinate onboarding processes and ensure completion of documentation and training
  • Maintain performance management records
  • Prepare employment verification letters and HR documentation
  • Support recruitment processes including job requisition tracking
  • Coordinate office access cards and employee name plates.

Business Partnership & Program Support

  • Partner with the HR team to support HR programs across multiple locations
  • Lead and deliver monthly Gainshare processes
  • Coordinate and deliver quarterly KPI reporting
  • Support cross-functional HR initiatives

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to improvement of HR processes, systems, and reporting capabilities
  • Support initiatives that enhance efficiency and employee experience

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in HR operations, HRIS, or similar role
  • Experience with HR systems, preferably Ceridian Dayforce
  • Advanced Excel skills (data analysis; macros an asset)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
  • Ability to manage confidential information
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
