
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of HR, the Human Resources Generalist is
responsible for a variety of HR functions with the main emphasis on talent acquisition,
data analytics reporting, new hire orientation, student and staff employment processes,
benefits and HRIS administration.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Oversee talent acquisition process for students and staff inclusive of recruitment,
reporting metrics, and hiring.
• Create HR analytic reports and spreadsheets to track and measure effectiveness of
HR strategic and operational objectives.
• Post open positions on CalArts and on-line employment websites.
• Process new hire background checks when applicable.
• On-board faculty and staff in individual or group setting; collect, information for I-9 verification.
• Manage the new hire orientation program.
• Ensure notification of employment changes to Payroll, other appropriate
departments, and insurance carriers as needed.
• Assist with answering busy telephones for the office and greet faculty, staff, students and visitors.
• Keep current with legal issues related to employment/recruitment.
• Assist with legal compliance including updates of forms, postings, employee notification, etc.
• Work in concert with Assistant Director of Human Resources to coordinate benefits
open enrollment and annual benefits fair.
• Assist with administering FMLA/CFRA request for leaves.
• Input and maintain data in Colleague HRIS and generate reports as needed.
• Process employment verifications.
• Complete monthly Department of Labor employment reports.
• Respond to employee requests for assistance.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all personnel related matters
• Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources Management, Psychology or
relevant field is required. An equivalent combination of education and related
experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
PHR or SHRM-CP is desired.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Effective organizational and time management skills, as well as flexibility to move
between day-to-day tasks and project-oriented tasks.
Comfortable with high volume workload and able to manage multiple priorities in a
fast-paced environment.

Approachable and responsive resource able to connect with employees at all levels.
Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
Must have excellent follow-through and strong sense of urgency.
Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Must have strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and
PowerPoint.
Knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 2 years related experience within a range of HR disciplines.
1 – 2 years of work experience in full-cycle talent acquisition processes is required.
Experience working with metrics, reports and data systems.
Proven expertise in Excel, being able to create and consolidate data, pivot tables,
build dashboards and automated templates.
Experience working with Colleague or other enterprise systems highly desired.
Experience working in an academic environment desired.
