Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our team. This is an onsite role based out of ourHouston Headquarters in the Galleria District.

SCOPE:

This position supports the Human Resources department by managing and improving HR programs, policies, and practices throughout the organization. The HR Generalist works with employees and leaders to offer guidance on HR-related aspects of the employee life cycle, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations.

The ideal candidate will have at least a minimum of five (5) years of experience in HR operations or related roles

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding procedures, including personnel transactions, employee orientations, documentation, and maintaining compliant records.
  • Address employee concerns and inquiries, offering guidance and solutions to foster a positive and professional work environment.
  • Review and revise HR templates to incorporate policy, legal, and organizational updates.
  • Participate in HR projects such as policy development, process improvements, and other initiatives.
  • Interpret and enforce company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws.
  • Keep precise and current employee records, including personnel files and HRIS entries.
  • Assist in identifying training needs, support the development of employee training programs, manage the course catalog in the company’s Learning Management System (LMS), and track completion.
  • Facilitate, communicate and promote employee training opportunities and resources.
  • Oversee the management of learning course assignments, enrollments, and reporting within the LMS to ensure HR and Legal compliance.
  • Create reports on HR metrics, trends, and HRIS-tracked activities for management review.
  • Support the performance review process by guiding managers and employees on goal setting and performance improvement plans.
  • Manage the HR general mailbox by promptly acknowledging inquiries, providing guidance, and supporting overall employee communication and messaging. Escalate concerns when needed.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot time clock issues, verify hours for accuracy before payroll processing, coordinate corrections with managers, and ensure timely approval of bi-weekly timecards. Manage employee leaves of absence in accordance with federal and state regulations and company policies, including communicating and tracking eligibility and documentation. Coordinate with third-party administrators, communicate status, and explain return-to-work requirements to employees and managers.
  • Support payroll processing by reviewing employee status changes, new hire tax documents, and data updates, including adding pay codes for unique or non-standard compensation scenarios such as bonuses, retro pay, leave of absence, and running necessary pre-open and pre-check payroll reports before approving the final payroll register.
  • Monitor leave usage and ensure accurate payroll entries and benefits adjustments throughout the leave period.
  • Coordinate with payroll managed services to handle off-cycle checks, corrections, and urgent payroll adjustments.
  • Manage employee recognition programs, including data handling, award distribution, and reporting.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in HR operations or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience supporting leave of absences in collaboration with a third-party administrator.
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms, including experience managing employee data, processing transactions, running standard to moderately complex reports, and supporting system accuracy and data integrity.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis) and effective presentation abilities using PowerPoint and other Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience with SuccessFactors HRIS.
    • Experience with UKG payroll systems.
    • Background in a multinational company with geographically dispersed offices.
    • Multistate employment law experience.
    • Experience managing and triaging inquiries in a shared HR email inbox.
    • HR certification (e.g., SHRM‑CP, PHR).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel 10%.
  • Standard Monday through Friday work week. Weekend or late-night work if applicable.
  • Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand, walk, talk, and/or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
