Overview

This position is with NYK Group America's Inc.

The Director of Human Resources serves as the corporate and regional HR leader for the NYK Group (Americas) organization and the U.S. operating company. The role leads the U.S. HR function, aligns people priorities with business objectives, promotes consistent HR practices across the Americas, and supports global HR and organizational transformation initiatives.

Salary Range: $160k-$200k

  • Lead the HR function and ensure effective delivery of HR operations, payroll, benefits, HRIS, employee services, workforce administration, and annual HR programs.
  • Establish policies, controls, and service standards that promote consistent, confidential, and compliant HR practices.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, Payroll, global headquarters, and external advisors on employment compliance, audits, investigations, reporting, and risk management.
  • Develop workforce and talent strategies that support business priorities, organizational capability, and leadership succession.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, organizational design, international assignments, rotational programs, immigration coordination, and talent mobility.
  • Advise leaders on employee relations, performance concerns, investigations, corrective actions, separations, conflict resolution, and organizational change.
  • Lead performance management, leadership development, employee engagement, inclusion, communication, and culture initiatives that strengthen organizational effectiveness.
  • Assess organizational and leadership development needs with senior leaders and establish learning programs aligned with business objectives.
  • Oversee corporate-sponsored events and employee engagement initiatives, ensuring programs strengthen organizational culture, foster employee connection, and enhance the overall employee experience.
  • Oversee compensation, incentive, health, welfare, and retirement programs to support competitiveness, internal equity, effective administration, and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise leadership on pay decisions related to hiring, promotions, retention, workforce changes, and annual compensation planning.
  • Maintain effective partnerships with Finance, Payroll, brokers, benefit providers, and advisors on funding, renewals, reporting, audits, and plan governance.
  • Lead regional implementation of global HR initiatives and represent Americas Reginal HR priorities in global discussions.
  • Coordinate cross-border workforce programs and serve as regional HR lead for Corporate Transformation and other strategic change initiatives.
  • Participate in occasional after-hours meetings with Tokyo headquarters and other Americas regional HR teams to support global collaboration, communication, and project implementation.
  • Lead, coach, and develop HR professionals, establishing clear priorities, accountability, and strong functional capability.
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion in complex, sensitive, and confidential matters, with appropriate escalation.
  • Balance strategic leadership with practical execution in a lean, fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, industrial relations, business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Ten or more years of progressive HR experience with broad responsibility across multiple HR disciplines, including leadership of an HR team or substantial senior-level responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior leaders and resolving complex, sensitive, and ambiguous workforce matters.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. employment practices, HR operations, compensation and benefits, talent management, and compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or a comparable professional HR certification.
  • Experience in a multinational or matrixed organization and partnering with global headquarters.
  • Experience leading HRIS selection, implementation, integration, and process optimization initiatives in a complex, multi-entity, or multinational environment.
  • Experience supporting international assignments, organizational transformation, and cross-cultural workforce initiatives.
