Job Description

Human Resources Director

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Status: Full-Time | In-Person, 5 days onsite

Salary: $140,000–$150,000

The Opportunity

A well-established, privately held, multi-location hospitality and consumer services organization is seeking an experienced Senior Human Resources Director to lead its HR function across a diverse and growing workforce.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for an HR professional who enjoys being close to the business and partnering directly with executive and operational leadership. The Senior HR Director will oversee Human Resources, Employee Relations, Compliance, Talent Acquisition, and Workplace Safety while leading and developing the existing HR team.

The organization operates multiple locations and includes customer-facing operations, culinary/production environments, drivers, and corporate employees.

This role is ideal for an HR leader who can move comfortably between strategic leadership and hands-on execution—someone equally capable of advising executives, coaching managers, leading a sensitive employee investigation, improving HR processes, and ensuring strong compliance and safety practices across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic HR partner and trusted advisor to executive leadership and operational leaders.
  • Lead all core HR functions, including employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, compensation, benefits, training, compliance, and HR operations.
  • Oversee HR practices across multiple locations and ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, and employment practices.
  • Maintain strong compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, with particular emphasis on California employment law.
  • Lead complex employee relations matters, workplace investigations, corrective actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Oversee workplace safety, injury prevention, workers' compensation, return-to-work, and risk management programs.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Payroll, Finance, Training, and other business leaders on workforce planning and organizational priorities.
  • Develop and continuously improve HR policies, employee handbooks, training programs, safety initiatives, and compliance procedures.
  • Leverage HR metrics and workforce analytics to identify trends, mitigate risk, and improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team while building a responsive, collaborative, and service-oriented HR function.

Ideal Background

The successful candidate will bring 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least 5 years in an HR leadership capacity, with a strong foundation in California employment law, employee relations, investigations, and compliance.

Experience supporting a multi-location, operationally intensive workforce is important. Candidates coming from hospitality, restaurants, food & beverage, retail, manufacturing, distribution, or other multi-unit environments are particularly relevant.

Additional experience that would be highly valued includes:

  • Supporting organizations with 500+ employees
  • Workplace safety and workers' compensation oversight
  • OSHA/Cal-OSHA compliance
  • Risk management
  • High-volume or hourly employee populations
  • Talent acquisition and workforce planning
  • ADP Workforce Now and other HCM platforms
  • Payroll, benefits administration, workforce management, and HR reporting
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification

A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required.

What We're Looking For

This organization is seeking a practical, approachable, and highly credible HR leader who enjoys being connected to employees and operations.

The right person will be able to build strong relationships from the executive team to frontline employees, bring sound judgment to complex employee matters, and create scalable HR practices without becoming overly bureaucratic.

This is not a role for someone who wants to lead HR exclusively from behind a desk. The Senior HR Director will have meaningful interaction with operating locations and leaders and should enjoy being visible, accessible, and actively involved in the business.
