About Us

The Shepherd Centre (TSC) is a highly regarded not-for-profit, providing specialised programs for children with hearing loss and their families. Our programs meet the needs of children of all ages; from our world-leading early intervention program for babies and toddlers, through to our mentoring program ‘Hear for You’ for school-aged children and teenagers. We have been empowering generations of children with hearing loss to listen, speak and have a voice for over 50 years, creating a world of choice and amplifying possibility.

TSC currently supports over 900 families all over Australia, providing in-person and online support from 10 locations across NSW, ACT, Queensland and Tasmania. Our global platform HearHub, supports health professionals working with children with hearing loss all over the world

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HR Coordinator to join our HR team, providing end-to-end support across the employee lifecycle. Reporting to the HR Manager, this role covers recruitment, onboarding, HRIS and employee records, offboarding, and general HR support to managers and staff. You’ll also support fortnightly payroll, reporting and compliance, while contributing to a positive workplace culture through wellbeing initiatives and continuous improvement.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity (38 hours per week). We offer flexible work arrangements and are open to discussing hours and work locations (other TSC centre locations).

An overview of the responsibilities include:

  • HR Operations: Act as the first point of contact for HR and payroll enquiries; manage shared inboxes and maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS.
  • Payroll & Systems: Support fortnightly payroll processing with Finance and external providers; maintain payroll data including new starters, terminations and employee changes.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Coordinate recruitment activities end-to-end, including advertising, interviews and candidate communication; prepare contracts and support onboarding and induction.
  • Employee Lifecycle: Maintain employee records, track key milestones (e.g. probation, contracts, visas), and support offboarding processes including exit interviews.
  • Projects, Compliance & Engagement: Support HR projects and process improvements; assist with training, compliance (e.g. WWCC, NDIS, WHS), reporting, and employee wellbeing initiatives.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, Business or related field (or working towards), and/or relevant HR experience.
  • Demonstrated HR generalist experience, including knowledge of industrial and legislative requirements.
  • Experience supporting payroll in a medium-sized organisation.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify issues and communicate outcomes clearly.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and intermediate–advanced Excel skills (Employment Hero desirable).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with stakeholders.
