The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a Human Resources Analyst 2 to join the HR team in Carson City. The incumbent is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of every recruitment from initial opening to final closure. The incumbent partners directly with command staff, division heads, and hiring managers to draft job announcements, establish selective criteria, and advise on legal hiring practices under NRS and NAC 284. Once the recruitment is open, the analyst monitors applicant tracking data and reviews incoming applications against minimum qualifications. This is not a traditional, desk-bound position. The incumbent directs separate, comprehensive hiring and testing processes for sworn law enforcement officers and participates in DPS sworn hiring events, university career fairs, and participates in community career events throughout Nevada. They also coordinate and proctor the Post Physical Readiness Test; adhering to Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training regulations. This requires overseeing applicant testing environments to ensure the rigorous, standardized administration of Physical Agility Tests and written law enforcement assessments. The analyst is also responsible for timely workflow through each section of the recruitment process. This position requires a flexible schedule, including periodic work outside of standard business hours and on Saturdays to facilitate mass testing events and weekend career expos. Routine travel up to 25 percent of the time is required to support hiring events.

Examples of duties

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in public administration or a related field and two years of progressively responsible professional personnel experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Incumbents make presentations before a variety of hearing bodies.

Incumbents provide advice to department management, line departments, or employees on policy and rule interpretation.

Incumbents investigate employee complaints and recommend alternative solutions.

Incumbents conduct research, prepare reports, and present findings.

Incumbents perform related work as required.

Under general direction, Human Resources Analyst 2s perform journey level work in one or more of the following areas: classification and compensation; recruitment and selection; grievance investigation; and policy development; also serves field departments as journey level generalist in support of major divisions or may support Human Resources Officer with very complex, statewide specialized programs. The class is distinguished from the Human Resources Analyst 1 level by the level of independent judgment exercised, and the journey level knowledge required. This is the journey level in the series.
