Job Description

Key Job Responsibilities Include:

People Focus AreaEmployee experience, engagement, talent development, and support

  • Assist with talent acquisition activities including talent acquisition, job profiles and evaluations, interviewing and screening, reference and background checks, and orientation and onboarding.

  • Provide frontline support for employee inquiries related to policies, benefits, and HR procedures.

  • Participate in and/or coordinate employee engagement initiatives, wellness programs, and recognition activities, as well as training sessions, workshops, and development programs.

  • Support the HR team and leadership throughout the organization with employee relations documentation and follow-up.

    Market Focus Area - Talent competitiveness, employer branding, and labour‑market alignment

  • Maintain market awareness of compensation trends, HR best practices, and labour-market data to support decision-making.

  • Support Brand Committee with employer branding initiatives by assisting with career fairs, Co-op promotions, and student engagement.

  • Support respectful workplace initiatives to attract and retain diverse talent.

  • Help monitor external HR policies, trends, and legislative changes that may impact our HR programs.

    Operations Focus Area - Core HR processes, HRIS optimization, compliance, and procedural efficiency

  • Support the creation, revision, and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and toolkits.

  • Conduct HR audits, data quality checks, and documentation reviews to ensure compliance with legal and organizational standards.

  • Provide support for complex HRIS transactions and reporting and help build the understanding and use of the HR system by all employees and staff.

  • Support operating departments through talent and performance management cycles, and employee learning and development.

  • Analyze and understand key HR metrics and provide actionable insights to leadership.

  • Support or lead HR projects such as policy redevelopments, system upgrades, or other organizational initiatives

    Financial & Long-term Sustainability Focus Area - Resourcing efficiency, cost-conscious HR programming, and workforce stability

  • Provide recommendations on staffing plans, organizational structures, and long‑term workforce needs.

  • Support budget planning and cost management related to recruitment, training, compensation, and HR programs.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through process optimization and improved retention strategies.

  • Contribute to workforce and succession planning and leadership development to ensure future organizational stability.

    Corporate Social Responsibility Focus Area - Ethical leadership, community engagement, and socially responsible HR practices

  • Participate in or coordinate community partnerships, volunteer events, or educational outreach.

  • Ensure HR practices and decisions align with ethical standards and reflect the organization's values.

  • Promote environmental mindfulness and community engagement through various departmental initiatives.

Who you are:

Education

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labour Relations, or a related field.

    Related Experience & Skills

  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience

  • Experience providing advice to leaders on HR policies, performance management, employee relations, or recruitment.

  • Experience conducting or supporting workplace investigations is considered an asset.

  • Previous experience with HRIS platforms is beneficial. (Familiarity with Oracle applications are an asset.)

  • Solid understanding of employment legislation.

  • Knowledge and understanding of key HR processes including

    • Talent acquisition, job evaluation, and workforce planning.

    • Talent and performance management processes and employee development.

  • Understanding of respectful workplace principles, inclusivity and equality principles.

  • Strong grasp of confidentiality, privacy laws, and professional ethics.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving, and negotiation abilities.

  • Ability to coach leaders and employees with tact and professionalism.

  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting HR metrics and trends.

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.

  • Applies strong data literacy skills to interpret HR metrics, identify trends, and present insights in a clear and meaningful way

  • Quickly adapts HR practices, processes, and priorities to meet evolving business needs while maintaining service quality.
