Job Description

Your opportunity
By joining the Kardium team, you can help make a difference in the lives of millions around the world. We have developed a ground-breaking medical device for the diagnosis and treatment of the most common heart rhythm disorder, atrial fibrillation – which can cause stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related complications.
Kardium’s mission is to deliver the best treatment for atrial fibrillation. To achieve this, we have developed The Globe® Pulsed Field System – we have a fantastic technical team that has developed a product with strong, unique, and customer-valued differentiators versus other solutions on the market. We have built connections with key opinion leaders who are already using the Globe System and are helping to tell our story.
We have obtained FDA approval and officially begun the commercial launch of the Globe® Pulsed Field System. This is a pivotal and exciting time in our journey, as we bring this life-changing technology to patients!
We are seeking a Human Factors Engineer to help drive assessment, product design, and usability improvements by supporting human factors-related design and development activities. You will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary engineering team, working across the clinical, software, mechanical, and risk management domains. Your days will center around facilitating human factors activities of the Globe PF System in pre-clinical and clinical settings. You will use your human factors expertise and focus on safety and usability to inform product design decisions and to generate validation evidence to support regulatory submissions.

Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.

Responsibilities:

• Plan and execute formative and summative usability tests to meet FDA and IEC regulatory requirements.
• Draft human factors related documents such as test protocols, test reports, use specifications, human factors engineering reports, and usability engineering files.
• Conduct hardware and software usability testing as input to the design and development process.
• Use human factors analysis techniques to conduct user research, interpret user needs, understand use errors, and assess risk impact to provide input into design decisions.
• Conduct human factors research with end users including physicians, electrophysiology lab staff, and other healthcare workers.

What you bring to the team
Our Kardium team is smart, creative, and passionate about creating cutting-edge medical devices to help improve people’s lives. We work within a collaborative environment based on trust and respect. And we understand that only by working together can we solve the unsolvable.
You will be successful in this role because you possess these attributes:
• University Degree in Human Factors Engineering (HFE), Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Industrial Design, Engineering or a related discipline.
• 2+ years of experience with human factors engineering/usability activities.
• Experience conducting human factors validation testing to support FDA or IEC regulatory submissions is an asset.
• Experience working in the healthcare industry is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with human factors analysis methods, such as contextual inquiry, task analysis, root cause analysis and use related risk analysis.
• Experience planning and executing formal and informal usability testing of hardware and software.
• Familiarity with user centered design processes.
• Working and effectively communicating in multidisciplinary teams.
• Familiarity with human factors engineering standards such as IEC 62366 and FDA Human Factors Guidance.
• Ability to travel to the United States to support testing activities as required.
