Corteva is seeking to hire a Human and Environmental Safety Lead in Global Regulatory Science (GRS) function to be based in Johnston, IA. The successful applicant will lead a team of subject matter experts (SMEs) in ecotoxicology, mammalian toxicology, and nutrition and dietary exposure assessment. The position requires technical expertise in regulatory risk assessment for seed biotech and gene edited products along with people leadership. The position will also work as a close liaison with other technical experts across a wide range of disciplines within Corteva, global regulatory affairs colleagues, industry associations and regulatory authorities across the globe. The role will also be a part of GRS leadership team and contribute to strategy building, execution and people development in GRS team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead a team of experts in global regulatory science to conduct studies, answer regulatory questions, and support all regulatory aspects of human and environmental safety of seed products.
  • Co-lead the development and execution of global regulatory strategies in seed product safety aligned with business objectives, guide the team through portfolio priorities balancing workload, and keep the focus on R&D innovation goals.
  • Provide guidance for development, validation and implementation of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for human and environmental safety assessments.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory safety study designs, drive continuous improvement and work closely with SMEs to deliver highest quality data for regulatory submissions.
  • Lead risk assessment advocacy with regulators to develop understanding of rapidly advancing technology, ensure regulatory requirements keep pace with technology developments and help shape regulatory framework.
  • Maintains updated knowledge of critical regulatory milestones and regulatory issues in human and environmental safety for products. Accountable for delivering support on all product safety questions for global regulatory colleagues.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and monitor team performance through mentoring, coaching, and resource management. Provides feedback, recognizes achievements, and communicates progress within the organization.
  • Contributes through the group of SMEs on multiple product teams operating in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Develops robust communication strategies and implements a range of effective communication methods that inform and influence.
  • Effectively utilizes organizational networking to influence decision making.
  • Guides and mentors’ regulatory staff, supporting onboarding and development of a world-class global regulatory function through knowledge-sharing and adoption of best practices.

What Skills You Need:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent in mammalian toxicology, environmental toxicology, or other toxicology-related science degree with 10 years’ industry work experience in toxicology serving the agriculture industry or related regulated sector.
  • Established track record of successful interactions with multiple global jurisdictions and experience in safety assessment of novel traits is desirable.
  • Effective team leader with an ability to develop strategies to achieve team goals, resolve conflicts, monitor performance, and own accountability for delivery of regulatory goals.
  • Strong scientific background and critical thinking skills coupled with application of scientific principles for use in regulatory sciences and risk assessment.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership abilities to manage and coordinate multiple projects of diverse nature. Good publication record and industry association leadership is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate technical toxicology work to a range of audiences, especially effective engagement with regulators and global colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong project management experience.
  • Leadership through influence across diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to lead and drive changes as needed in a dynamic industry environment.
  • Understanding of Good Laboratory Practices standards.
