We invite applications for a Data Manager and GIS Technician (Research Support Staff) to join the research line "History and Archaeology of Everyday Life in the Southern Caribbean and Latin America." This position is funded by the European Research Council project ERC-2024-STG Alternative Modernities and Everyday Life in the Pre-emancipation Southern Caribbean (c. 1634–1863) (IslandLives)
The successful candidate will be responsible for the collection, management, organization, and quality control of geographic and documentary data generated during the project’s archaeological excavations. Additionally, they will maintain the digital infrastructures associated with fieldwork and scientific data management.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
● Management and maintenance of the project’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) using QGIS or equivalent software.
● Integration and updating of geospatial data derived from archaeological fieldwork.
● Operation and maintenance of RTK georeferencing systems during archaeological campaigns.
● Planning and execution of drone flights for archaeological documentation, photogrammetry, and territorial recording.
● Processing drone-acquired data (orthophotos, digital terrain models, and photogrammetric models).
● Coordination and supervision of the spatial registry for archaeological units, structures, and materials.
● Management of the project’s field database and supervision of data preservation protocols (storage, naming, and backups).
● Ensuring compliance with FAIR criteria (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) for scientific data.
● Development of internal protocols for documentation and georeferencing.
● Provision of technical support to the research team and preparation of cartographic materials for scientific publications and outreach.

● Education Level: High School Diploma (Batxillerat).
● General Requirements:

● Benefits: Annual gross salary of approximately €25,600
● Estimated Duration: 3 years.
● Eligibility Criteria (Selection Scoring):
○ Demonstrable experience using QGIS (or similar) in international archaeological projects (preferably in South America): 10 points
○ Experience as a teacher or trainer in GIS applied to archaeology: 10 points
○ Knowledge of Anthropology and/or Archaeology of South America: 10 points
○ Knowledge of remote sensing systems: 5 points
○ Knowledge of drone operation and LiDAR data processing: 10 points
○ Knowledge of database structuring and management: 5 points
○ Knowledge of spatial processing software (Agisoft Metashape, CloudCompare, etc.): 5 points
○ Minimum score to pass: 35 points
