Job Description

Power your future with Qualus in our T&D Canada business as a HSSE Specialist. The HSSE Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Company’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) programs. This role promotes a strong safety culture, ensures compliance with WorksafeBC (WSBC) and client requirements, and provides technical guidance to field and office employees. The position requires frequent travel across the assigned coverage area to conduct safety assessments, support client projects, and delivery of training.

Responsibilities

  • Promote Safety Culture: Actively champion a positive, team-oriented safety culture across all business units.
  • Compliance & Program Support: Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure regulatory and client compliance.
  • Field Support: Serve as the primary safety contact for field employees providing on-site guidance, hazard assessments, and recommended solutions to mitigate or eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Inspections & Audits: Conduct compliance inspections, behavior-based safety observations, and job hazard analyses; prepare reports and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Incident Response & Investigation: Lead or support incident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
  • Training & Awareness: Deliver safety training and toolbox talks; provide coaching to employees and supervisors on safe work practices, human performance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Recordkeeping & Reporting: Maintain safety logs, training records, and compliance documentation; prepare monthly safety reports and communications.
  • Collaboration: Schedule and coordinate Safety Team meetings; prepare agendas, minutes, and follow-up action plans.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support initiatives that strengthen safety systems, processes, and employee engagement.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: This role is not a people manager position but may involve mentoring small teams on-site as it pertains to HSSE protocols and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Relevant industry work experience or 5–9 years of experience in occupational health and safety.
  • Proficient in computers, computer networks, and Android/iPhone app skills: Microsoft Office suite of software, mapping drive letters for server connections, obtaining, installing, and connecting handheld device apps to ‘The Cloud’ or other locations as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to read company manuals, reports, workplace rules, and procedures; speak with poise and confidence, using English.
