Within QGC, the operating model continues to evolve to support safer, simpler and more efficient delivery in the field. This role will help embed that intent by supporting Wells teams through disciplined ways of working, stronger field verification and alignment with the broader DSW ambitions for reliable, competitive and safe execution.

You will join the Shell QGC Wells S&E team, providing S&E support and advice for onshore Drilling, Well Intervention, Wells Civils and Construction operations in Queensland.

As an S&E Advisor, we’ll be looking to you to bring and apply expertise across both Safety and Environment, understanding that the role requires integrated support, advice and challenge across both disciplines. As an integral part of the team, you’ll thrive on collaborative relationships, leverage each other’s strengths and help build a stronger overall team that works well together and has the confidence to work independently.

You will role model a deep commitment to our safety and environmental values, code of conduct, and visibly demonstrate a simplification and delivery mindset, balancing immediate activities with longer-term business directions, aligned to business improvement and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

As an S&E Advisor in Wells, you’re going to provide guidance, field coaching, assurance and support to the Wells community within QGC onshore operations, supporting continuous improvement in both safety and environmental performance towards Goal Zero.

More specifically, your role will include:

• Working a rotational roster remotely in QLD
• Providing support and constructive challenge to QGC Wells teams to enable delivery of high safety, and environmental performance.
• Championing and role modelling a strong S&E culture of discipline, visible leadership, line accountability and care for people and the environment.
• Implementing environmental mitigations and S&E improvement plan initiatives, including field verification of disturbance controls, erosion and sediment management, waste, spill prevention, rehabilitation obligations, cultural heritage controls and environmental approval commitments.
• Working closely with the Wells Civils team to support safe and environmentally responsible civil construction, lease preparation, access tracks, pads, rehabilitation and land disturbance activities, ensuring controls are understood, verified and effectively implemented in the field.
• Supporting QGC’s evolving operating model and DSW ambitions by helping translate business priorities into practical field behaviours, assurance routines and improvement actions that strengthen safe, reliable and efficient Wells delivery.
• Supporting effective S&E assurance and governance processes, including verification of critical controls, barrier effectiveness and leading indicators to enable continuous safe operation.
• Providing technical environmental advice and monitoring for the Wells business unit.
• Enabling safe Wells activities with a strong emphasis on contractor management, including pre-mobilisation checks, onboarding, field assurance, performance review, corrective action management and consequence management where required.
• Providing effective implementation of HSSE plans, emergency response systems, incident management and HSSE support in the field, including drills, scenario testing, response plan familiarisation and close-out of improvement actions.
• Working collaboratively with QGC subject matter experts to support compliance with Shell SEAM requirements and embed consistent standards across Wells activities.
• Supporting compliance with local and state standards and requirements, particularly those associated with Petroleum & Gas, Workplace Health and Safety, and environmental regulatory bodies.
• Driving engagement and promoting a strong safety and environmental culture with internal and external stakeholders, facilitating learning across QGC Upstream and working collaboratively with Shell Australia to share best practice and address common issues.
• Leading and supporting learning from incidents, assurance findings and high-potential events, ensuring actions are practical, embedded and effective in preventing recurrence.
• Monitoring S&E performance trends, assurance outcomes, weak signals and emerging risks to support targeted improvement plans and decision making.

What we need from you?

When it comes to nurturing collaborative stakeholder relations both internally and externally, your interpersonal and influencing people skills will make a difference. You will inspire people to make changes that will have a direct impact on our success. Furthermore, you will have:

• Formal tertiary or professional qualification in a S&E related discipline preferred.
• Strong people and communication skills with the ability to build trust and influence from the workforce level to top management, contractors and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of field-based process safety risk management principles and controls, including well integrity, safety critical equipment maintenance, critical control verification and barrier ownership, is preferred.
• Professional experience in site environmental management. A strong background in erosion and sediment control and land stabilisation is desired.
• Proven experience working with civil disturbance, drilling rigs, field teams and positively impacting S&E culture.
• Project and/or operational experience in the Australian regulatory environment, ideally including experience working with or supporting engagement with RSHQ/DETSI.
• Experience in Wells onshore unconventional operations.
• Experience in offsite inspections of equipment prior to mobilisation to site to ensure compliance with Australian Standards, Safer Together and Shell’s SoFA requirements.
• Experience in incident investigation and Causal Reasoning.
• Excellent oral and written presentation skills, including the confidence to present in front of small groups.
• Confidence in using computers daily, with intermediate or advanced skills in Microsoft-based programs preferred.
