About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced HSEQAdvisor to support our operations across South Canterbury and Otago. This role is ideal for a health, safety, environmental and quality professional who is passionate about creating safe workplaces, ensuring compliance, and embedding continuous improvement across civil construction projects in the region.

Based in Timaru as the HSEQ Advisor you will work closely with project teams, site personnel and management to deliver practical, site-focused HSEQ systems and guidance. You will promote a positive safety culture, manage compliance activities, lead investigations, and support training and auditing to maintain high standards across our contracts.

What you’ll be doing

• Provide hands-on HSEQ support to project teams across, South Canterbury and Otago, including site visits, toolbox talks and coaching to embed safe work practices.

• Develop, review and maintain HSEQ Management Systems.

• Lead incident and near-hit investigations, prepare clear reports with root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk.

• Assist the business performance and growth of the HSEQ Strategies, and Culture.

• Conduct regular audits and inspections (safety, environmental and quality), report findings, and work with project teams to implement timely improvements.

• Support traffic management, environmental controls and hazardous work permits on projects, ensuring appropriate controls are in place and monitored.

What you’ll bring

• 5 years + Proven experience in HSEQ, HSE or similar advisory roles within civil construction, infrastructure or related industries.

• Solid knowledge of New Zealand health, safety, environmental and quality legislation and standards relevant.

• Experience conducting audits, investigations and delivering training; ability to translate findings into practical actions on site.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and coach diverse site teams and stakeholders.

• Self-motivated, organised and able to manage workload across multiple sites with a practical, solutions-focused approach.

• Current NZ driver licence (Class 1 essential) and willingness to travel across the South Canterbury and Otago region when required.

• Diploma is preferred or any relevant qualifications in health & safety, environmental management or quality (e.g. NEBOSH, NZQA H&S, ISO auditing).
