At ABB Marine and Ports, we are focused on electrifying Container Terminals globally. Ports have many electrical consumers, such as Ship-to-Shore Cranes, Stacking Cranes, Reefer sockets, Shore Power, electric vehicles, and buildings. Within our team, we design and build electrical and automation infrastructure to provide reliable and sustainable power to our customers, enabling them to handle containers efficiently.

Our scope includes Medium Voltage Substations, SCADA systems, Terminal Lighting, Reefer racks and their electrical systems, Electrical Vehicle charging infrastructure, and Grid Connection substations, among others.

Our core products are prefabricated substations built in our facilities in Panama. These substations are fully tested and commissioned before they arrive at the construction site. These substations include medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, low-voltage switchgear, UPS, DC systems, SCADA, Fire Alarms, and climate control systems.

Our project locations span the globe, covering the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. They typically take around 24 months to complete. Safety and Integrity are part of our DNA throughout the project lifecycle.

The HSE Manager will be in charge of contributing to improving Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) performance in their assigned area of responsibility to cultivate a high-performance culture with a strong focus on HSE. Supports the business by applying in-depth HSE knowledge and offering solutions and advice. Ensures effective risk management through HSE excellence along the ABB value chain.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates HSE risk assessment conducted by the line management and ensures all necessary preventive measures against the identified hazards are implemented.

  • Reports HSE incidents to the management and relevant stakeholders and takes appropriate actions.

  • Facilitates, assists, and provides guidance on incident investigations to learn better ways for mitigating risks.

  • Provides feedback to the management and employees on lessons learned and best practices from within their own unit and across ABB.

  • Supports the HSE Manager in reporting progress with respect to the implementation of the group-level HSE objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), as required.

  • Assists the line managers and supervisors in understanding their obligations, liabilities, and requirements for role fulfillment, as per local HSE laws and group/business-specific requirements.

  • Supports and drives behavioral change through the local implementation of group-wide and business-specific performance improvement programs and practices.

  • Supports and embeds an exemplary health and safety culture with a strong focus on the environment across their respective organization.

  • Ensures that the appropriate HSE-related equipment and tools are available and used effectively.

  • Contributes to and/or plans and executes HSE-related projects.

  • Develops project objectives and reports the progress to management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field.

  • Strong background in Risk Management, Engineering, Regulations & Compliance.

  • Knowledge of Process Improvement, Optimization, and HSE-related Administration.

  • Familiarity with safety best practices and general finance related to HSE projects.

  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role, with proven organizational and planning skills.
