Job Description

At Sedgman, we deliver some of the world’s most complex mineral processing projects, supporting clients across the global resources and critical minerals sectors. As HSE Manager, you will provide the leadership, guidance and specialist expertise required to establish and maintain a safe, responsible and high-performing project environment.

This is a site-based role in Brazil, working as a trusted adviser to project leadership and delivery teams. You will establish and continually improve the project HSE management system, monitor performance and compliance, and ensure risk, assurance, training and incident management processes are embedded throughout execution.

You will have the opportunity to shape HSE culture from project establishment and create an environment where people understand the risks, take ownership and go home safely.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the establishment, implementation and continuous improvement of the project HSE management system.
  • Advise project leadership, employees and contractors on HSE risks, requirements and performance.
  • Develop, review and implement the Project HSE Management Plan, risk registers, procedures and programmes.
  • Lead and coach project HSE advisers and support capability development across the project.
  • Oversee project HSE audits, inspections, observations and critical control verification activities.
  • Monitor compliance with legislative, client and Sedgman HSE standards and requirements.
  • Support the investigation of significant events and ensure corrective actions are appropriate and closed within required timeframes.
  • Oversee hazard identification, Operational Risk Assessments and the management of high-risk project activities.
  • Maintain accurate incident, assurance and performance reporting and identify trends requiring intervention.
  • Coordinate project-specific inductions, training and HSE awareness programmes.
  • Work with project and contractor teams to ensure statutory and role-specific training requirements are met.
  • Champion visible leadership, constructive engagement and continuous improvement in HSE performance.
  • Build a culture in which safety and environmental responsibility are integral to every project decision.

What we’re looking for

You’re an experienced HSE leader who combines strong technical knowledge with visible field leadership, practical judgement and the ability to build trust across project, client and contractor teams.

  • Relevant occupational health and safety qualification or equivalent.
  • Lead auditor, incident investigation and training qualifications are advantageous.
  • Significant HSE experience within mining, mineral processing, construction or heavy industry.
  • Experience establishing HSE systems for large-scale construction or project environments.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, audits, incident investigation and corrective action processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach frontline leaders and employees in practical HSE management.
  • Strong reporting, trend analysis and written communication capability.
  • Confident stakeholder engagement across employees, contractors, clients and leadership teams.
  • Ability and willingness to work at the project site.
  • Knowledge of applicable Brazilian HSE requirements is highly advantageous.
  • Professional fluency in Portuguese and English is strongly preferred.

Why this role?

This is an opportunity to shape HSE culture and systems from the establishment of a major mineral processing project, providing leadership that protects people, strengthens performance and sets the standard for responsible execution.

If you’re looking for more in your next move, you’ll find it here: more opportunity to lead visible HSE performance, more impact through strong systems and culture, more perspective through collaboration across a complex project, and more purpose supporting the safe delivery of resources and critical minerals projects helping shape the future.
