HSE Manager

Reports to: Site Manager

The Role

Lead health, safety and environmental performance at our Featherstone site – driving a mature safety culture, strong risk management and full legal compliance. Working closely with the site management team, you’ll make HSE integral to how the site operates, coaching leaders and embedding personal accountability for safety at every level.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the site’s HSE strategy in line with kp standards and UK legislation, acting as the trusted advisor who challenges and influences operational decisions.
  • Build a mature safety culture – coaching managers and supervisors, strengthening visible safety leadership and embedding accountability for risk.
  • Ensure compliance and effective management systems (e.g. ISO 45001, ISO 14001, BRCGS where applicable), leading inspections, audits and assurance activities.
  • Lead risk identification, assessment and control, and run high-quality incident investigations that find systemic causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Develop competency and training programmes – induction, refresher and risk-specific – and create an environment where employees actively identify and challenge hazards.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness (fire, evacuation, first aid, crisis) and drive environmental compliance and sustainability improvements (waste, emissions, energy).
  • Analyse leading and lagging indicators (TRIR, incidents, near-misses, audits), spot trends and give leadership the insight to drive continual improvement.

What You’ll Bring

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification); working towards or holding CMIOSH is desirable. Equivalent qualifications and experience considered.
  • 5+ years’ HSE experience in manufacturing or industrial environments – packaging or related industries preferred.
  • Strong, practical knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proven experience in risk assessment, incident investigation and safety training.
  • Experience in a regulated environment (food, pharma or consumer packaging) and knowledge of Lean / continuous improvement are an advantage.
