As part of the ongoing growth of OCU-ANZ, plant and equipment operations are being centralised across the business, with multiple yards and warehouses established to support operations across all acquisitions and projects. This newly created role will play a key part in supporting this uplift, integration, and standardisation across the wider OCU-ANZ group.

The Opportunity

AEC is seeking an experienced and hands-on HSE Lead (Plant & Equipment) to provide proactive Health, Safety, and Environmental leadership across our expanding plant and equipment operations.

This role is critical to ensuring consistent HSE standards are implemented across all plant, equipment, yards, warehouses, and associated project interfaces throughout the OCU-ANZ portfolio. You will work closely with operational and leadership teams to drive compliance, improve systems, support safe work practices, and foster a strong safety culture across the business. Key Responsibilities

HSE Leadership & Compliance

• Proactively identify, address, and anticipate HSE risks across plant, equipment, yards,
  warehouses, and operational interfaces.
• Implement, maintain, and monitor HSE management plans, policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
• Conduct regular inspections, audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews across
  operational sites.
• Develop, maintain, and update Plant Risk Assessments for current and future equipment fleets.
• Ensure compliance with AEC’s Incident Management Procedures, including incident reporting and escalation processes.
• Promote safe movement and operation of materials, equipment, and personnel in line with
  legislative and company requirements.
• Lead hazard management activities and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
• Support the development and implementation of Training and Verification of Competency (VoC) programs.

Training & Safety Culture

• Foster a strong safety-first culture through leadership, coaching, mentoring, and positive
  engagement.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, and HSE training sessions to ensure workforce competency
  and compliance.
• Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, reporting, and close-out of
  corrective actions.
• Assist operational teams with the development of SWMS, risk assessments, and safe work
  methodologies.

Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

• Collaborate with managers, supervisors, and operational teams to improve HSE performance
  and systems.
• Maintain accurate HSE documentation, audit records, inspections, and risk registers.
• Contribute to innovation and continual improvement initiatives across AEC and OCU-ANZ operations.
• Participate in HSE meetings, reviews, and business improvement initiatives to align
  operational performance with company objectives.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 7+ years’ experience in HSE roles within renewable energy, construction, heavy
  industry, or infrastructure sectors.
• Formal qualifications in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of WHS legislation, standards, and industry codes of practice.
• Proven experience conducting plant risk assessments, incident investigations, audits, and
  compliance activities.
• Experience with workers compensation and claims management processes.
• Knowledge of Chain of Responsibility (CoR), LUEZ concepts, and dangerous goods/hazardous substances management and transportation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence teams at all levels.
• High attention to detail and strong documentation and reporting capabilities.
• Competent using HSE reporting systems and digital safety platforms.
• Construction White Card and Open Driver’s Licence required.
• Ability to meet site-based medical and fitness requirements.
• Full Australian working rights.
