PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To ensure compliance to legislation, mine policies, codes of practices, standard rules and procedures in respect of Health, Safety and Environmental issues in a designated area of responsibility
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma or a Degree either specializing in Safety Management, Mining or Engineering is essential
- Computer literacy (MS Office package) is essential
- Minimum of 5 years working experience as a Chief/Safety Officer is essential
- Must have a valid code EB (08) licence and own transport
- Must have experience and knowledge of SHE management systems across the entire spectrum
- Must have experience and knowledge of health and safety regulatory requirements including the application of different permits and permissions
- COMSOC/SAMTRAC/COMPLAT, and all other safety-related qualifications is essential
- Fair knowledge of CURA/ISOMATRIX Management Systems will be an advantage.
- Mine Overseer Certificate would be considered an advantage
- Valid Medical Certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate
KEY
PERFORMANCE AREAS:
The successful candidate
will be responsible for:
- Devising and implementing a risk management system to minimize risk exposure through policies, Procedures, and safe work practices
- Facilitating and conducting audits to measure compliance and implement initiatives to address shortcomings
- Maintain and improve HSE management system and environmental standards and practices
- Measuring compliance to the mine health and safety act,
- Facilitating and managing peer reviews (group audits) on fatal risk exposure and measure remedial action plan compliance to reduce serious incidents
- Conducting root cause analysis of all serious incidents and participate to implement remedial actions that will prevent repeat accidents
- Determining the risk exposure and formulate management action plans to mitigate the risk and incorporate management risk plans into HSE standards and safe-work procedures
- Facilitate the investigation of accidents and incidents across the mine
- Risk management and HSE system implementation process
