The Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC and/or manual machining equipment. This role requires the ability to independently read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and technical documentation to determine tooling requirements, machine setup procedures, machining methods, and sequence of operations. The Machinist plays a critical role in the manufacturing and repair of components by ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering specifications.

Key Responsabilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Verify fixture setups meet quality standards for milling, boring, depth, angle, and dimensional requirements.
  • Set up, troubleshoot, and prove out first-run machining programs and operations.
  • Select and specify tooling appropriate for machining operations and understand machining processes.
  • Perform algebraic and trigonometric calculations in support of machining activities.
  • Install, align, and secure tooling, fixtures, attachments, and workpieces on machinery.
  • Assemble cutting tools into holders and load tooling into machine magazines.
  • Load machine programs and retrieve machining instructions from controllers and databases.
  • Establish machine controls and cutting parameters including speed, feed rates, depth of cut, and coolant flow.
  • Monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions and ensure product quality.
  • Change tooling and machine setups as necessary and verify conformance to blueprint specifications.
  • Adjust machine controls manually or electronically to maintain tolerances and correct machining issues.
  • Operate machinery manually when required to perform non-automated machining functions.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and programmers to resolve machining and programming challenges.
  • Maintain machines, tooling, and work areas, including preventive maintenance activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and other special projects as assigned.
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and effective communication with employees, customers, and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Relevant machining experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred: Machinist certification, apprenticeship completion, Journeyman status, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to write CNC machine programs and edit G-Code programs.
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC and/or manual machining equipment.
  • Experience working with a variety of alloys and materials.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software, including MasterCam and SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with FANUC controls and CNC programming principles.
  • Strong knowledge of machining practices, blueprint reading, tooling selection, machine setup, quality inspection methods, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Experience operating Horizontal Mills, Vertical Mills (HAAS), VTLs, NC Lathes, Manual Mills, and EDMs.
  • Proficiency with CNC controls, machining software, CAD/CAM systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to approximately 10%.
  • Valid driver's license and passport required.

This role requires regular standing and verbal communication throughout the workday. Employees may occasionally walk, sit, and use their hands and arms to perform work activities. The position requires regularly lifting up to 10 pounds, frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.

Employees are routinely exposed to moving mechanical equipment and machinery in a manufacturing environment. Noise levels are generally moderate, and hearing protection may be required in designated areas. Compliance with all safety procedures and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
