About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially focused HR Business Partner to support our Freight Forwarding business across North Europe Reporting to the Vice President, People - Freight Forwarding Europe and partnering directly with the Vice President, Freight Forwarding - North Europe, this role will play a critical part in shaping and delivering the people agenda across a growing, multi-country freight forwarding organisation operating across air, ocean and road freight.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to senior operational and commercial leaders, translating business strategy into effective people strategies that strengthen organisational capability, leadership effectiveness, employee engagement and operational performance. Working within a fast-paced logistics environment, you will balance strategic HR partnership with hands-on delivery, helping to drive organisational growth, transformation, talent development, workforce planning, leadership capability, employee relations and cultural integration across the North Europe region.
Location: Sale, Manchester with regular travel across the UK, Ireland, Sweden and other North Europe locations
How You Will Contribute:
• Act as the principal HR Business Partner to the VP, Freight Forwarding - North Europe and designated members of the senior leadership team.
• Develop and execute people strategies aligned with the North Europe freight forwarding business plan and commercial objectives.
• Translate business priorities, operational challenges and growth plans into practical people initiatives that support organisational performance and growth.
• Provide insightful people data, analysis and recommendations to support senior leadership decision making.
• Partner with business leaders on organisational design, restructuring and workforce planning initiatives to ensure the business has the right capabilities, structure and talent to support future growth.
• Support business expansion, acquisitions, integration activities and organisational change programmes where required.
• Lead workforce planning activities including headcount planning, succession planning and future capability requirements.
• Coach and challenge senior leaders to enhance leadership effectiveness, accountability and people management capability.
• Identify critical talent and future leadership requirements across North Europe and lead talent review and succession planning processes for key positions.
• Partner with managers to create development plans for high-potential employees and emerging leaders while supporting the development of a strong internal talent pipeline.
• Work closely with Talent Acquisition to attract and retain high-quality freight forwarding and logistics talent.
• Provide senior-level advice and guidance on employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence, redundancy and organisational change.
• Ensure employee relations practices are fair, consistent, legally compliant and aligned with company standards across the region.
• Coach managers through complex people situations and build confidence in handling employee matters effectively.
• Drive effective performance management practices and support the development of a high-performance culture across the organisation.
• Lead employee engagement initiatives and ensure employee feedback is translated into meaningful action plans.
• Use engagement, turnover, absence and other people metrics to identify trends and recommend interventions.
• Act as the HR lead for business transformation, organisational change and integration programmes.
• Develop change management strategies that support effective communication, engagement and adoption during periods of growth and transformation.
• Partner with Reward and leadership teams on salary reviews, incentive structures and retention strategies.
• Support annual budgeting and workforce planning processes to ensure people plans align with business and financial objectives.
• Ensure all HR activities comply with company policies, governance standards and applicable employment legislation.
• Monitor key people risks and provide appropriate recommendations, escalation and mitigation plans to senior leadership.
About You:
QUALIFICATIONS
• CIPD qualified or equivalent professional HR qualification.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field is desirable.
EXPERIENCE
• Significant experience as an HR Business Partner within logistics, freight forwarding, supply chain, transport, manufacturing or another operationally intensive environment.
• Proven experience partnering with senior operational and commercial leaders.
• Strong experience in organisational design, workforce planning, talent management and leadership development.
• Extensive employee relations experience and confidence managing complex and sensitive situations.
• Experience supporting organisational change, restructuring, acquisitions and integration programmes.
• Experience working across multiple countries or within a matrix/global organisation.
• Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR practices across North European markets.
• Experience within the freight forwarding or wider logistics sector is highly advantageous.
