About ERIK'S:

As the largest independent bicycle retailer in the U.S., ERIK'S thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy environment where every team member plays a key role in our success. We recognize hard work, promote from within, and believe that strong people and strong systems create an environment where employees and leaders can succeed.

We are seeking an HR Talent & Culture Manager to lead the people-development and talent side of ERIK'S People / HR function. This role is responsible for helping ERIK'S attract great people, strengthen our culture, improve employee engagement, create career and advancement opportunities, develop future leaders, and retain talented employees.

The HR Talent & Culture Manager develops the systems, programs, and resources that support recruiting and employee development across the organization while partnering closely with Market Leaders and Store Managers. The role helps create the environment and opportunities for employees to grow at ERIK'S, while Market Leaders and Store Managers remain responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coaching, development, performance, and accountability of their employees.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruiting & Talent Acquisition:

  • Develop and continuously improve recruiting systems and processes across ERIK'S.
  • Partner with Market Leaders, Store Managers, and company leadership to identify current and future staffing needs.
  • Help leaders develop effective recruiting strategies for their individual markets and locations.
  • Improve ERIK'S ability to identify, attract, evaluate, and hire strong candidates.
  • Develop recruiting resources, tools, templates, and best practices that can be used consistently across the organization.
  • Support employer-brand initiatives that communicate why talented people should build their careers at ERIK'S.
  • Monitor recruiting performance and identify opportunities to improve candidate flow, hiring effectiveness, and retention.

Career Development & Advancement:

  • Develop clear career paths that help employees understand opportunities available within ERIK'S.
  • Build systems that help identify employees with the interest and potential to take on greater responsibility.
  • Help create meaningful advancement opportunities across stores, markets, and departments.
  • Partner with Market Leaders and company leadership to develop future Store Managers, Market Leaders, and organizational leaders.
  • Help employees understand the skills, experience, and performance required to advance within the organization.

Leadership & Employee Development:

  • Develop tools, programs, and resources that strengthen leadership and employee development.
  • Partner with company leaders to identify development needs and organizational skill gaps.
  • Support leadership training, mentoring, coaching resources, and other development initiatives.
  • Help create consistent expectations around what strong leadership looks like at ERIK'S.
  • Develop programs that support employees throughout different stages of their careers.

Succession Planning:

  • Build and maintain a practical succession-planning process for key positions throughout the organization.
  • Partner with Market Leaders and company leadership to identify potential future leaders.
  • Help create development plans that prepare employees for expanded responsibilities.
  • Identify organizational talent gaps and areas where stronger internal pipelines need to be developed.
  • Provide leadership with visibility into the depth and readiness of ERIK'S internal talent pipeline.

Culture & Employee Engagement:

  • Help define, communicate, and strengthen the behaviors and practices that support ERIK'S culture.
  • Develop initiatives that improve employee connection, engagement, and understanding of company priorities.
  • Create opportunities to gather meaningful employee feedback and identify themes requiring attention.
  • Partner with leaders to translate employee feedback into practical improvements.
  • Help ensure company culture remains visible and relevant across markets, stores, and departments.

Recognition & Retention:

  • Develop recognition programs and practices that celebrate strong performance, leadership, growth, and contribution.
  • Analyze employee retention and turnover trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Market Leaders and leadership to understand why strong employees stay and why employees leave.
  • Develop initiatives that strengthen ERIK'S ability to retain talented employees.
  • Help ensure employees can see a future for themselves within ERIK'S.

Leadership & Market Support:

  • Serve as a resource to the President, company leadership, Market Leaders, and Store Managers on recruiting, talent development, engagement, career paths, succession planning, and retention.
  • Provide leaders with systems, tools, and resources that make them more effective at attracting and developing people.
  • Partner closely with Market Leaders and Store Managers while maintaining clear ownership of responsibilities.
  • Market Leaders and Store Managers remain responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coaching, performance management, development, and accountability of employees within their markets and stores.
  • Coordinate staff training opportunities.

What You Bring:

Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, recruiting, talent acquisition, employee development, organizational development, or a related people-focused role. Experience supporting a multi-location retail or service organization is a plus.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, Communications, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience is strongly considered.

Skills:

  • Strong experience with recruiting and talent-acquisition systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop employee or leadership-development programs.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with leaders at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Strong project-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to turn broad people objectives into practical programs and systems.
  • Comfortable analyzing recruiting, retention, engagement, and employee data to identify actionable trends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business systems.

Mindset:

  • Passionate about helping talented people build meaningful careers.
  • Believes strong leaders and strong cultures are intentionally developed.
  • Energetic, approachable, and comfortable building relationships throughout the organization.
  • Understands that HR creates systems, tools, opportunities, and support while operational leaders remain responsible for leading and developing their teams.
  • Proactive and willing to challenge existing approaches when better solutions are available.
  • Comfortable moving between long-term organizational initiatives and hands-on recruiting or employee-development work.
  • Focused on outcomes rather than programs for the sake of programs.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit aligned with ERIK'S culture of speed, growth, accountability, and results.

Why You'll Love It Here:

  • An opportunity to directly influence how ERIK'S recruits, develops, recognizes, and retains great people.
  • A highly visible role working directly with the President, Market Leaders, Store Managers, and company leadership.

  • Genuine ability to influence ERIK'S culture and future leadership pipeline.
  • A hardworking, supportive team that values initiative, development, and results.
  • Discounts on the best bike, ski, and snowboard gear in the industry.

Erik's Bike Shop, Inc.

About Erik's Bike Shop, Inc.

Erik was 13 when he started ERIK'S BIKE SHOP. His first bike, a hand-me-down from an older family member, sparked his interest in bikes. With an entrepreneurial spirit, and the money he saved from his job (the only other job he's ever had) as a paperboy - Erik began his business. He bought 50 used bikes, fixed them up, and sold them.

Erik's original workshop was in his parent's backyard, inside one of the few remaining barns in the urban setting of Richfield, Minnesota. A homemade sign brought business to his doorstep.

By his senior year in 1982, the business (now stocking NEW bikes and accessories) began to take over storage space from his parents' basement... to the dining room... to the family room. So at 18, Erik moved his business out of his parents' barn and opened a store on 72nd & Chicago Avenue South in Richfield, Minnesota.

Today ERIK'S is the Midwest's leading bike, ski, and board retailer. A lot has changed, but Erik's core business principles remain - professional staff, unbeatable customer service, and remarkable product expertise - all in a friendly store environment. And Erik still enjoys working in the shops to help customers find their perfect ride.
