Job Description

HR Specialist - Nursing Recruitment-(26004378)

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking an HR Specialist to be responsible for talent sourcing, screening, interviewing, and selection of professional and non-professional positions within the Department of Nursing; provide expertise on HR policies and procedures and contract implementation related to recruitment; and develop recruitment marketing plans and coordinate recruitment events.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Sourcing:

  • Partner with hiring managers to assess talent requirements and advise on hiring strategies.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external constituents as related to the recruitment process (e.g. senior leadership, hiring managers, 3rd party recruitment firms, etc.)

  • Utilize a variety of tools/techniques (e.g. social media, advertising, direct contact, job fairs, and community outreach) to drive employer branding and recruitment marketing campaigns and events.

  • Recommend sourcing strategies to comply with Affirmative Action guidelines to achieve a qualified talent pool.

  • Proactively source and identify nursing talent through job boards, social media, professional networks, university partnerships, and niche nursing associations.

  • Build and maintain talent pools for hard-to-fill and high-volume nursing positions.

  • Utilize CRM and ATS platforms to manage and engage candidate pipelines effectively.

  • Conduct outreach campaigns and target marketing efforts to attract both active and passive candidates.

  • Partner with Marketing and Communications to promote the employer brand across social and professional platforms.

  • Represent the organization at career fairs, nursing schools, and professional networking events.

  • Maintain strong relationships with nursing schools, associations, and community partners to support ongoing pipeline development.

Interviewing and Screening:

  • Generate applicant pools by initiating requisitions to post new and vacant positions and prepare associated internal/external advertisements.

  • Work with hiring managers and compensation/classification to write effective job descriptions.

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to define position requirements, competencies, and selection criteria.

  • Screen and prequalify candidates to ensure alignment with licensure, credentialing, and experience standards.

  • Conduct phone screens to make recommendations to hiring managers.

  • Collaborate with administrative staff and hiring managers to schedule interviews.

  • Coordinate interview processes, provide candidate feedback, and facilitate offers in alignment with HR guidelines.

  • Serve as an administrator for all assigned job searches and can participate in candidate interviews. Provide expertise of institutional policies and guidance for interview questions, assuring compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Assure compliance with all federal and state regulations throughout the recruitment/hiring process.

Onboarding:

  • Completion of all onboarding activities for department of nursing including references, background checks, degree and license verifications.

  • Maintenance of centralized reference checks.

  • Run and distribute reports, monitor compliance, and gather information regarding compliance activities or issues.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum one-year human resources experience with recruitment responsibility

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous high volume recruiting experience

  • Experience with applicant tracking systems

  • Experience in Human Resources and/or recruitment of Healthcare professionals

  • Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR)

  • Working knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action policies

  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
