HR Service Representative

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Under direct supervision, this position provides advanced-level technical human resources service line support and guidance within a designated area of specialized expertise. Provides independent guidance and facilitation to client constituencies, other HR staff, and/or members of the general public in the interpretation and application of core HR operating policies, guidelines, procedures, systems, and documentation. Initiates, leads, and/or coordinates the investigation and resolution of complex process- and/or data-related issues as appropriate to the specified area of expertise. Develops and/or coordinates the development, documentation, and maintenance of operating processes, procedures, and data/records systems as applicable to area of expertise. Provides standard and advanced-level policy/procedural information, and performs complex problem resolution or referral on areas of expertise, such as benefits, disability, retirement, leaves of absence, compensation, HRIS, company policies & procedures, HR systems & processes, employment, employee relations, and education/learning and development. May provide day-to-day technical oversight and/or project leadership/coordination to lower-level technical and/or administrative staff. May review, process, and route a wide range of incoming human resources documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies; able to adapt to different communication styles and to use tact and diplomacy in resolving conflict/dealing with irate customers.
  • Ability to research and analyze complex data and make recommendations for problem resolution.
  • Ability to provide clear technical guidance and instruction to non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to exercise independent initiative, judgment, and problem resolution skills in performing complex human resources specialty activities within area of expertise.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials such as may be necessary to respond to inquiries, requests, and/or investigations.
  • Knowledge of human resources processes, procedures, and documentation specific to Covenant Health.
  • General knowledge of Federal and state employment laws and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments about sensitive, confidential issues; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • One member in the HR Service Rep I or II job will have responsibility for review of the Tn Disciplinary Action Report.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Local travel required.
  • Proficient in the following computer applications: MS Word; Excel; Outlook; CYBORG; KRONOS; various online web applications including Applicant Tracking Systems and e-Learning Systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a Bachelor’s degree in a directly-related field from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience:

Requires a minimum of five (5) years’ work experience performing a variety of administrative/technical support functions in the fields of human resources, payroll, benefits, employment, training or directly-related disciplines. Prior work experience must have included performance of advanced specialized technical tasks to include assistance with project development, participation in the development and recommendation of operating policies, processes, and procedural improvements; and research and analysis of complex data related to a designated area of specialized expertise.

Licensure Requirement:

Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
