Job Description

HR Manager (m/w/d)

Department: People

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: Berlin

Reporting To: Ana Alvarez

We opened our first German office in Berlin in January 2026 and are in the early stages of scaling our presence. The global headquarters and HR function are based in London. This role will act as the primary HR contact on the ground in Berlin and support the development and implementation of HR processes locally.

This is a generalist HR role in a fast-growing environment. The position covers the full employee lifecycle and requires close collaboration with the global HR team. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hands-on capacity and support both operational HR activities and selected office-related responsibilities.
The company operates in a predominantly in-person working model, and this role requires regular presence in the Berlin office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage employee relations matters in Germany, including day-to-day HR queries and formal cases, in compliance with German employment law and applicable employee representation requirements
  • Ensure HR documentation, employment contracts, and policies are accurate, compliant, and suitable for a scaling organisation
  • Work closely with the global HR team in London to align HR processes and maintain consistent standards across locations
  • Lead end-to-end recruitment for the Berlin office, in cooperation with the Office & Recruitment Coordinator and hiring managers
  • Support the onboarding process for new employees, including organisational, cultural, system, and compliance-related elements
  • Manage offboarding processes, including documentation, exit procedures, and knowledge transfer
  • Contribute to compensation benchmarking, benefits review, and wellbeing-related initiatives for the German market
  • Support office management activities as required, in coordination with the Office & Recruitment Coordinator

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken, at professional level
  • Solid knowledge of German employment law (Arbeitsrecht), including the Works Constitution Act (BetrVG), statutory notice periods, probationary periods, termination regulations, and data protection requirements (GDPR / BDSG)
  • Proven experience in a generalist HR role, preferably in a fast-growing or international organisation
  • Experience in full-cycle recruitment, either independently or in collaboration with a recruitment function
  • Experience handling employee relations matters with discretion, empathy, and sound judgement
  • Ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively, and work independently where required
  • Structured and solution-oriented working style with a practical approach to operational HR topics
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across different levels of the organisation

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a distributed or international HR team
  • Familiarity with HR systems (HRIS) and/or applicant tracking systems (ATS)
  • Experience with office management or facilities coordination
  • Degree in Human Resources, Business, Law, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
