About the Role

At Apogee Architectural Metals, our people strategy is a core driver of operational excellence, safety, quality, and customer outcomes. The HR Manager plays a critical leadership role in enabling this by serving as the primary people partner to site and functional leaders while leading a team of HR professionals delivering day-to-day HR services.

The HR Manager works closely with business leadership to ensure the organization has the right talent, structure, capability, and culture to execute today and scale for the future. This role balances strategic partnership, operational rigor, and strong people leadership in a fast-paced, manufacturing-driven environment.

This role is responsible for labor and employee relations, talent and performance management, organizational effectiveness, compliance, workforce planning, and the consistent execution of HR programs and policies. The HR Manager partners closely with Apogee Centers of Excellence and Shared Services while ensuring strong local execution across Metals operations.

What You Will Do

Strategic Partnership & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to site and functional leadership on workforce strategy, organizational design, talent needs, and culture.
  • Participate in business leadership meetings to align people priorities with operational and financial goals.
  • Partner with leaders to assess organizational effectiveness, clarify roles, and ensure alignment between structure, workload, and business demand.
  • Support and lead change initiatives including restructures, process changes, and organizational transformations.

Talent, Performance & Capability

  • Lead and support talent management processes including workforce planning, succession planning, performance management, and leadership development.
  • Coach leaders on performance expectations, feedback, development, and accountability.
  • Oversee annual performance and talent review processes for supported functions.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and leaders to define hiring needs, role requirements, and selection strategies.

Labor & Employee Relations

  • Lead employee relations activities, including investigations, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Manage labor relations in union environments, including contract interpretation, grievance handling, and preparation for collective bargaining.
  • Partner with Legal, Labor Relations, and business leaders to ensure compliance and consistency.
  • Support leaders in applying policies and the collective bargaining agreement fairly and effectively.

Compliance, Risk & Governance

  • Interpret and apply employment laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local labor laws.
  • Identify people-related risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support internal audits and compliance initiatives.

HR Operations & Process Excellence

  • Ensure consistent and high-quality execution of HR processes including onboarding, offboarding, performance management, engagement, and reporting.
  • Partner with Shared Services for payroll, benefits, HRIS, and transactional support.
  • Identify inefficiencies, redundancies, or risks in HR processes and drive continuous improvement.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop HR Coordinators, Generalists, and/or HR Business Partners.
  • Build a high-performing HR team focused on service excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear expectations, priorities, and development plans for team members.

What You Should Have

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience in manufacturing, operations, or complex business environments.
  • 2+ years of experience leading or managing HR professionals.
  • Experience supporting unionized workforces strongly preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of employment law, labor relations, and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and advise leaders at multiple levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complexity, ambiguity, and change.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and facilitation skills.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This role is primarily office-based but requires regular presence in manufacturing environments and collaboration with site leadership and teams. Occasional travel between Metals locations may be required.

Work involves:

  • Sitting for extended periods
  • Using standard office equipment
  • Attending in-person meetings
  • Occasional walking through manufacturing facilities requiring appropriate PPE
