Job Description

Human Resources Business Partner

About the Role

Thundermist Health Center is growing its HR team and hiring a Human Resources Business Partner. This position serves as a strategic, hands-on HR generalist supporting people leaders and employees across multiple Thundermist locations. You’ll partner with site Executive Directors, department leaders, and clinical and administrative managers on employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits guidance, workforce planning, and organizational effectiveness. A distinguishing focus of this role is provider relationship management — supporting physicians, NPs, PAs, and nurses from post-offer through credentialing, onboarding, and long-term retention. If you’re an HR professional who thrives in healthcare, knows employment law inside and out, and wants to make a real impact at a mission-driven FQHC, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

Strategic HR Partnership & Employee Relations

  • Serve as a trusted HR advisor to site Executive Directors, department leaders, and people managers across assigned locations
  • Manage employee relations investigations end-to-end: intake, interviews, documentation, findings, and recommended actions
  • Coach leaders on people management, team effectiveness, feedback, performance improvement plans, corrective action, and termination decisions
  • Interpret and consistently apply Thundermist HR policies across sites; ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Translate business priorities into HR strategies and action plans; provide HR representation in leadership meetings

Compensation, Benefits, Leave & Total Rewards

  • Partner on new hire offer analyses, promotions, market adjustments, pay equity reviews, and FLSA classification reviews
  • Guide managers and employees on compensation, benefits, retirement plans, leave administration, and total rewards questions
  • Support the annual compensation review cycle including manager coaching, communication, and delivery
  • Support benefits open enrollment, new hire benefits guidance, life-event escalations, and leave management (FMLA, Rhode Island TDI/TCI, Paid Sick Leave)
  • Contribute to the full suite of total rewards operations — this team values deep expertise in benefits, compensation, and leave compliance

Provider Lifecycle & Workforce Planning

  • Serve as a primary HR relationship partner for medical providers from post-offer acceptance through long-term retention
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to maintain candidate engagement during extended credentialing and pre-onboarding periods
  • Support provider onboarding, orientation, and integration in partnership with hiring leaders and Credentialing
  • Support workforce planning discussions including headcount, turnover analysis, org design, and role changes across assigned client groups
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition, Finance, and clinical leadership on provider engagement, satisfaction, and retention strategies

What We’re Looking For

You’re an HR generalist who can run an investigation in the morning, coach a manager through a difficult conversation at lunch, and analyze a comp equity report by end of day. You build trust fast, handle sensitive situations with discretion, and bring strong employment law knowledge to every decision you touch.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field — or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of progressive HR experience with broad generalist exposure across employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, and workforce planning
  • Working knowledge of federal and Rhode Island employment law (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, RI TDI/TCI, RI Paid Sick Leave)
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms (Dayforce preferred) and Microsoft Office

Also valuable:

  • Prior experience in an HRBP or senior HR generalist capacity
  • Demonstrated experience supporting multiple sites or client groups in a matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and managing complex employee relations matters end-to-end
  • Experience partnering with leaders on compensation decisions, offer analysis, and annual compensation cycle activities

Strongly preferred:

  • Deep expertise in benefits administration, compensation, retirement plans, leave management (FMLA, TDI/TCI, ADA interactive process), and state and federal legal compliance
  • Prior experience in an FQHC, community health center, or healthcare organization
  • Experience supporting a clinical workforce including physicians, APPs, nurses, and behavioral health clinicians
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent senior-level HR certification

Compensation

$70,470 – $105,706 annually- Compensation reflects scope, experience, and qualifications.
