Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist provides implementation of Human Resources policies, programs, and procedures as directed by HR Management. Advises and helps managers and employees on questions relating to Human Resources. May be skilled in a variety of HR areas of expertise. May be in a role of providing additional assistance to an HR area based on the volume of work experienced in that area. Has the latitude to make decisions within benefit regulations and internal policies and procedures.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Administer and provide assistance to employees for all benefit plans including but not limited to: 401(k), Health Savings Account, audits, corrections, eligibility determination, answering questions, making deduction changes, researching issues, verifying coverage, administering COBRA, maintenance of benefit records, provider bill payment, and working with vendors.
  • Internal administration of the FMLA program, the LOA policy and STD or LTD plans for all sites (except Sparton/Logos). Works independently with third-party leave administrator in resolving issues.
  • Administration of Workers’ Compensation by coordinating all activities needed regarding on-the-job injuries, including managing the injured employee for medical care, filing appropriate paperwork with the state, working with the insurance carrier, reviewing bill payment, and other related duties.
  • Work independently with benefit carriers to resolve claim and enrollment issues.
  • Ensure files (benefit deductions, retirement deferrals, etc.) for payroll are loaded into the system and correct, taking action with appropriate parties when issues arise. Audit changes on a regular basis to ensure accuracy.
  • Answer and respond to all HR Connection calls, emails, and tickets in a timely and efficient manner while providing great customer service to employees.
  • Manage benefit projects and implementations of new benefit programs as assigned.
  • Provide support to team members across the organization.
  • Conduct new hire benefits orientation and other company trainings as necessary.
  • Coordinate new employee benefit enrollment and the annual re-enrollment process.
  • Support the wellness mission by administering and participating in benefits and wellness presentations, fairs, and incentives. Assist with the preparation and distribution of employee communication materials, both verbal and written.
  • Assist employees as well as managers and supervisors by listening to their question(s) and resolving the issues in a timely and effective manner, or by directing them to the appropriate area with HR for resolution.
  • Assist in administering compensation changes such as union salary progression.
  • Conduct and assist with various routine audits (i.e., 401(k), Dayforce, etc.) to affirm that data is accurate and up to date.
  • Assist with compliance for company procedures for training, i.e. Onboarding, transfers and promotion checklists, and new hire surveys
  • Administer and assist with child support and Medicare/Social Security requests.
  • Assist in collecting data for external benefit surveys
  • Help ensure the VETS-100, EE0-1, and Affirmative Action reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner. Also monitors any formal plans related to these reports.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge (Education/License/Certification, Prior Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred. 4 years functional experience may substitute
  • 1-3 years of functional (using skill set) experience is required
  • Training Prerequisites (Within One Year of Taking Position):
  • ESD
  • Safety Training, as dictated by Safety Department

Skills and Abilities:

  • Overall knowledge of all HR functional areas.
  • Awareness of HR law and regulations, such as EEO, FMLA, ADA, WC, etc.
  • Ability to be highly flexible with weekly and daily assignments.
  • Possess the personality trait of being a team player in all situations.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is very helpful.

Travel/Physical Requirements:

  • Standard office with computer usage while sitting.
  • May require standing for periods of time while conducting an event or doing instruction.
  • May require the lifting and movement of assorted HR-related material (50 lbs.)
  • May require time or travel outside of the building.
