Overall purpose of role
To partner with business leaders and employees to deliver a proactive, commercially focused HR service that drives organisational effectiveness, employee engagement, talent development and operational excellence.
The role is responsible for leading and supporting key people initiatives across employee relations, talent acquisition, learning and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and HR systems, while fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture aligned with business strategy and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Business Partnership and Employee Relations
- Partner with managers and employees to provide expert HR advice and guidance on policies, procedures, employment legislation and people-related matters.
- Support and manage employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence management and workplace investigations, ensuring fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes.
- Support the full employee lifecycle from onboarding and performance management through to employee development, retention, and exit processes.
- Drive employee engagement, health and wellbeing initiatives and DE&I programmes to enhance employee experience, engagement and retention.
- Support the delivery of the annual My Voice employee engagement and pulse surveys, analysing trends, identifying areas of concern, and partnering with managers to develop and implement targeted action plans to improve engagement outcomes.
- Utilise people data and employee feedback to identify trends, mitigate risks, and provide insights that support business objectives and workforce planning.
- Act as a trusted HR partner, coaching managers on employee relations best practices, performance management, employee engagement and organisational change initiatives.
Compensation, Benefits and HRIS
- Administer monthly payroll, ensuring all employee data changes are accurately maintained in Workday, payroll reports are validated, and payroll is processed and approved within required deadlines.
- Manage monthly pension administration activities, ensuring accurate employee and employer contributions and compliance with pension scheme requirements.
- Coordinate benefits administration, including new enrolments, life event changes and support the annual renewal processes, liaising with benefit providers as required.
- Monitor, track, and report employee absence data through Workday and the Bradford Factor system, providing insights and supporting absence management initiatives.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data, ensuring data integrity and compliance throughout the employee lifecycle.
- Generate and analyse HR, payroll, compensation, benefits, and workforce reports to support business decision-making, corporate requests, audits, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Support HR system enhancements, process improvements, data audits, and testing activities to optimise the effectiveness and accuracy of HR operations.
Training and talent management
- Identify organisational training and development needs across technical, manufacturing and support functions, sourcing appropriate external training providers and designing bespoke learning solutions to address capability gaps.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate training programmes and workshops for employees and managers, ensuring alignment with business objectives and workforce development requirements.
- Assist with the design of skills matrices across the business to assess workforce capability, identify skills gaps, and support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
- Support the full talent lifecycle, driving employee development activities in line with the annual Organisational and Talent Review cycle to enhance performance, engagement, and retention.
- Support the performance management process, partnering with managers to set meaningful objectives, facilitate regular performance discussions, and ensure the completion of performance reviews and development plans.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, development, and accountability, helping to build organisational capability and support the achievement of strategic business goals.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Manage end-to-end recruitment activities, including writing or updating job descriptions, vacancy advertising, candidate sourcing and screening, employee referral programmes, interview coordination and offer management to attract and secure high-quality talent.
- Partner with hiring managers to support workforce planning, recruitment strategies, and talent acquisition initiatives, ensuring current and future staffing requirements are met.
- Lead onboarding and induction activities for new hires, developing structured onboarding plans and delivering a positive employee experience that promotes engagement and early productivity.
- Coordinate pre-employment screening, background checks, and right-to-work verification processes, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and company requirements.
- Support employer branding and candidate experience initiatives to strengthen the organisation's ability to attract, engage, and retain top talent.
- Monitor recruitment metrics and hiring trends, providing insights and recommendations to improve recruitment effectiveness, time-to-fill, and quality of hire.
HR Administration, Communications and Compliance
- Maintain accurate employee records and organisational data within Workday, ensuring all employee lifecycle changes, reporting lines and organisational structures are updated in a timely manner and reflect current business requirements.
- Produce, analyse, and interpret HR metrics, people analytics, and workforce reports to provide actionable insights that support business decision-making, workforce planning and organisational effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with UK employment legislation, GDPR requirements, and internal policies through the effective management of employee data, documentation and HR processes.
- Develop and deliver HR communications to support employee engagement and organisational effectiveness, including site communications, notice boards, digital displays, presentations, and Town Hall content.

Skills & Abilities:
- Proven experience in a generalist HR role preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience of managing employee relations cases independently through to resolution.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational and administrative abilities with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Desirable
- Experience supporting multi-site or international organisations.
- Experience participating in HR projects and change initiatives.
Knowledge & Qualifications
- CIPD Level 5 qualification (or working towards) preferred.
- Strong and proven experience of payroll processes and benefits administration.
- Strong understanding of UK and European employment law and HR best practices.
Location and any travel requirements
Matcon Head Office, Evesham, Worcestershire, UK. Occasional travel to other manufacturing sites may be required for training or conference, approximately twice per year.
