We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate HR professional who thrives on partnering with managers, supervisors and employees, to drive people-focused solutions. We are seeking an experienced HR Consultant to provide operational HR support, helping to build an engaged, high-performing workforce while ensuring compliance with employment legislation and company policies.

Role Responsibilities

  • Independently manage routine and moderately complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, poor performance, misconduct and incapacity processes, escalating high-risk or complex matters to the HR Plant Manager where appropriate.
  • Coordinate end-to-end recruitment activities for operational and support roles, including sourcing, interviewing, selection, onboarding and probation management, to ensure timely filling of vacancies.
  • Support workforce planning activities by monitoring staffing requirements, employee movements and recruitment progress, and providing input to the HR Plant Manager.
  • Coordinate learning and development activities by identifying training needs and support succession planning initiatives for the Shop floor
  • Implement employee engagement, wellness and retention initiatives that promote a positive workplace culture and improve employee experience.
  • Support organisational change initiatives, restructures and consultation processes by coordinating HR activities, employee communication and implementation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with South African labour legislation, company policies, collective agreements and established HR procedures in all people-related activities.
  • Compile, analyse and report on key HR metrics, including absenteeism, vacancies, overtime, employee relations trends and other workforce indicators, highlighting trends and recommending operational improvements.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with managers, employees, trade unions and employee representatives to support constructive employee relations and operational stability.
  • Conduct workplace investigations into employee complaints, policy breaches and misconduct, preparing factual findings and recommendations for management decision-making.
  • Prepare documentation and represent the company with disputes referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), Bargaining Councils and other statutory bodies, in collaboration with the HR Plant Manager.
  • Participate in HR projects, process improvement initiatives and continuous improvement activities that enhance HR service delivery, compliance and operational effectiveness. Monitor the consistent application of HR policies, procedures and employment standards across assigned business areas.

Travel: Up to 10%

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Require a National Diploma or a B-tech Degree (advantageous)
  • Minimum 3+ years’ HR generalist experience in a unionized manufacturing environment or withing the FMGC industry
  • Proven knowledge and experience of all labour and Industrial relations legislation.
  • Good track record in representing conciliation & arbitration cases at the CCMA or Bargaining Councils Dispute resolution center.
  • Require South African citizenship

Preferred Qualification:

  • Knowledge of HR software systems (including Workday and VIP) is advantageous
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and conflict management skills
  • Ability to communicate and operate at all levels (including written and verbal)
  • Unquestionable level of ethics, integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Strong initiative, flexibility and ability to manage change
  • Highly professional, assertive and must be able to work independently and under pressure
  • Must be computer literacy, i.e. MS Office at Intermediate level
