The HR Business Partner (HRBP) serves as an adviser to the assigned business groups, applying HR expertise in various disciplines to shape and deliver HR services and programs to align with business strategies and goals to support Firstrust Bank and its two subsidiaries, Hatch Bank and Apex Commercial Capital. The HRBP brings strong executive presence and sound judgment, influencing decisions with data, balancing risk with outcomes, and coaching leaders to build accountability, capability, and a high-performing culture. In partnership with managers and the SVP, the HRBP leads and executes initiatives spanning talent management, employee relations, performance management, engagement, organizational development—ensuring consistent practices, effective execution, and measurable impact. The HRBP maintains a deep understanding of the business unit’s culture and strategy to ensure HR Solutions meet the needs to the business. The location of this position is hybrid based upon areas of support.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Partner with business leaders for subsidiaries to translate business strategy into an aligned people strategy, advising on talent management, employee relations, organizational design, performance management, workforce planning, and change management to ensure exceptional business results.
• Provide credible, proactive guidance to managers on employee relations matters, conducting timely, well-documented investigations and recommending practical, risk-aware resolutions consistent with policy and employment law.
• Partner with talent acquisition partner to drive recruitment for assigned client groups, including intake meetings, job scoping, sourcing strategy, pipeline development, candidate assessment partnership, and selection decisions to deliver timely, high-quality hires.
• Support company wide HR initiatives and business strategies, optimizations with offering HR solutions and acts as a change agent and subject matter expert with people management practices.
• Assess development needs and coordinate impactful training solutions (e.g., manager essentials, performance management, compliance, onboarding), partnering with HR and business leaders to improve capability and consistency.
• Lead and reinforce performance management practices, including goal setting, coaching, feedback, corrective action, and year-end processes; ensure documentation and decisions are fair, consistent, and timely.
• Partner with leaders to strengthen engagement and retention by analyzing trends, identifying root causes, and executing action plans that improve the team member experience.
• Ensure consistent application of HR policies, processes, and controls; maintain accurate records, leverage HR metrics/insights to inform recommendations, and escalate sensitive matters as appropriate.
• Partners with SVP, HR Director, HR Business Partner, Talent Acquisition Partner, Learning and Development and HRIS to deliver programs and participate in talent management roadmap.
• Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Acts as a change agent to carry out transformation related to people technology and other practices to deepen the clients’ understanding of these HR products and services.
• Works with training and development to identify, create and deliver management and professional development workshops.
• Maintains relationships with employees at all levels. Participates in bank activities, special projects, and committees.
• Reviews and benchmarks the internal and external environment to improve the HR policies and initiatives to enhance overall business performance.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as requested HR projects and initiatives as needed to further the achievement of organizational objectives.

OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists in the development of new business for Firstrust. Is alert to expressed customer/prospect needs to suggest appropriate services. Directs customers to appropriate person to establish business relationships.
• Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
• While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to operate a computer terminal and other office equipment.
• This position involves sedentary work while compiling data and reports and uses phone equipment to exchange information.
• The incumbent may be required to travel with or without notice to the corporate headquarters, operations center, and other work locations frequently to complete tasks.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Management, Labor Relations preferred;
• SHRM Certification is highly desired as SPHR, PHR or SHRM-SCP, CP.
• Five to seven years of HR Business Partner experience with proven experience in talent acquisition, talent development, employee relations, and training.
• California and multi-state employee relations experience preferred
• HR Experience in the Financial Services / Banking industry is preferred.
• Excellent knowledge of employment laws such as ERISA, COBRA, ADA, and other federal and state laws covering discrimination and equal opportunity employment
• Experience with Dayforce a plus along with modernizing and building technology to drive the employee experience include AI software.
• Excellent communication skills and strong ability to interface with all staffing levels within the organization.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and creative problem-solving ability; must be able to manage multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, to personal accountability and to achieving results.
