Job Description

The HR Business Partner will report directly to the mill manager. Pay will be very competitive and aligned with experience. The successful applicant must have a history of relevant work that will enable him or her to fulfill the requirements of the role. Experience in the wood-product industry is not required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct HR support to the Mill Manager and leadership team
  • Build an effective recruiting, interviewing, and selection process to hire quality hourly talent by developing and maintaining relationships with area trade schools, other local sources, and community outreach
  • Partner with Mill Manager to drive strategies focused on retaining employees
  • Embrace West Fraser values and become a positive culture driver for the facility
  • Recommend new approaches to effect continual improvements in department efficiency and streamlining of processes
  • Maintain hourly HR files in compliance with applicable state and federal requirements
  • Answer routine employee inquiries; interprets, administers and communicates company policies and procedures
  • Complete processes required to enter new hires and process status changes in HRIS system
  • Assist corporate HR with the Annual Benefits Enrollment process and drive Wellness program at the mills
  • Maintain HRIS records and compile reports from HRIS as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all West Fraser policies and procedures
  • Participate in and potentially lead hourly employee relations investigations
  • Assist in the hiring process by coordinating job postings both internally and on external job boards; perform pre-screening telephone interviews, assists with in-person interviews and reference checks and pre-employment drug screenings for hourly positions

Required Education, Experience & Skills

  • S/B.A. in Human Resources or related field
  • Two or more years’ experience in Human Resources – particularly in recruiting and employee relations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of legal and ethical standards

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • PHR or SHRM-CP
