Permanent

Grade C- £35,412 - £44,075

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the City Housing Directorate of Birmingham City Council. As one of the largest landlords with a retained housing stock, we deliver a range of services across the city and work in partnership with our communities to provide well managed homes and neighbourhoods.

This Housing Officer role will be working in the Central and North parts of the city, reporting to the Housing Manager. You will need to be flexible to respond to demand across the entire area when called upon.

This position is responsible for supervising Neighbourhood Visiting Officers on a daily basis, responding to emergency situations when they arise.

You will be required to supervise staff which will include Case Reviews, Managing Performance, setting targets/priorities, One to One’s, Appraisals, Monitor Sickness, Return to Work Interviews, Risk Assessments, Attendance, Annual Leave, Health and Safety etc.

You will be required to help identify training needs for those staff you manage/supervise, in partnership with your supervisor/manager, develop strategies to enable you to meet those needs, in line with the objectives of the organisation.

The successful applicant will also be required to deal with emergency situations that arise such water leaks in Tower Blocks, Gas Forced Entries and Safe and Well Checks as necessary.

Relevant experience in dealing with issues relating to Housing and problem-solving skills. The ability to communicate with our various stakeholders and hold partners to account. There is a need to effectively tackle concerns raised by tenants in order to seek the best possible solution. Experience of working in collaboration with partner agencies to deal with sensitive issues such as Safeguarding, dealing with vulnerable tenants, etc.

A full valid driving licence is a requirement for this post.
