The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supervising and supporting the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department to ensure guest rooms, public areas, and assigned spaces consistently meet company cleanliness and service standards. This position provides direction and support to housekeeping team members, conducts room and public-area inspections, monitors productivity, manage supplies and equipment, and communicates closely with Guest Services, Engineering, and Management.
The Housekeeping Supervisor is expected to lead by example, maintain a professional and positive work environment, provide excellent guest service, and ensure all company policies, safety procedures, and housekeeping standards are followed.
Duties/Responsibilities
Pre-Shift Preparation
- Check email and review important matters or updates from previous shifts.
- Continue monitoring email throughout the shift and respond to or communicate important information as needed.
- Review hotel occupancy reports and identify daily priorities based on occupancy and business levels.
- Communicate with Guest Services regarding special requests, no-shows, late check-outs, early arrivals, VIPs, and other guest needs.
- Gather necessary supplies and equipment for the housekeeping team and any special projects.
- Ensure all team members have reported to work on time and are properly dressed and in uniform; communicate attendance or uniform issues to Management.
- Conduct a daily team meeting to communicate assignments, priorities, special projects, operational concerns, and expectations while providing encouragement and support to the team.
Staff Supervision and Support
- Prepare and assign daily work assignments based on occupancy, staffing levels, priorities, and operational needs.
- Supervise housekeeping team members in a fair, professional, respectful, and friendly manner.
- Monitor team productivity and ensure assigned work is completed according to established standards and within the scheduled timeframe.
- Provide support and assistance to team members by checking in throughout the shift and addressing questions or challenges.
- Train new employees on housekeeping procedures, cleanliness standards, safety requirements, guest-service expectations, and department policies.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback regarding work performance and cleaning standards.
- Encourage teamwork, communication, accountability, and a positive work environment.
- Be able to perform all housekeeping positions and assist the team when staffing or operational needs require.
Public Area Inspections
- Conduct regular inspections of all assigned public areas, including the lobby, hallways, closets, gym, courtyards, restrooms, and other common areas.
- Monitor cleanliness and ensure public areas consistently meet company standards.
- Communicate inspection findings and expectations to Public Area Attendants and housekeeping team members.
- Ensure public restrooms are clean, properly maintained, and stocked with soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other necessary supplies.
- Ensure furniture, fixtures, and other items in public areas are clean, properly maintained, and in good working order.
- Report damaged or broken furniture, fixtures, equipment, or other property concerns to Engineering or Management.
- Follow up on maintenance concerns to ensure issues are addressed appropriately.
- Complete inspections and special projects assigned by Management, including carpet shampooing and other deep-cleaning projects.
Guest Room Inspections
- Conduct inspections of all vacant clean rooms to ensure they meet established cleanliness, presentation, and readiness standards.
- Inspect completed rooms and communicate room availability to Guest Services/Front Desk.
- Identify and report maintenance, safety, damage, or cleanliness concerns to Engineering and Management.
- Monitor room cleanliness and provide timely feedback and coaching to housekeeping team members.
- Ensure guest rooms are properly prepared for arriving guests and meet established standards.
- Communicate any rooms that cannot be completed or released as clean and ready for Guest Services and Management, including a plan for resolution
Inventory and Equipment Management
- Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, guest room supplies, linens, and other housekeeping materials.
- Communicate inventory concerns and shortages to Management.
- Place supply orders as needed and ensure adequate inventory is available for daily operations.
- Communicate orders to Management and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Inspect cleaning and laundry equipment to ensure it is clean, safe, and functioning properly.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to Management or Engineering and follow up as appropriate.
- Ensure cleaning chemicals are handled, stored, and used in accordance with company safety procedures and manufacturer instructions.
Guest Service
- Interact with guests in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner.
- Respond appropriately to guest requests and concerns and communicate complaints or service issues to the Guest Services Supervisor and Management.
- Encourage team members to maintain a positive and professional attitude when interacting with guests.
- Reinforce the property's guest-service expectations, including appropriate guest interaction and the 5–10 rule.
- Assist with resolving housekeeping-related guest concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Safety and Security
- Follow all company safety, security, and operational policies and procedures.
- Report accidents, injuries, property damage, hazards, and unsafe working conditions to Management immediately.
- Ensure team members follow proper safety procedures when using cleaning chemicals, equipment, and other housekeeping tools.
- Promote a safe and clean work environment for employees and guests.
- Report any suspicious activity, security concerns, or other incidents to Management in accordance with company procedures.
End of day Responsibilities
- Conduct a daily debrief with housekeeping team members before they leave to ensure all assigned duties have been completed.
- Review any incomplete assignments and assist the team in completing remaining tasks when appropriate.
- Communicate any outstanding rooms, projects, or tasks to Management and Guest Services and establish a plan for completion.
- Email the daily Do Not Disturb (DND) list and include applicable lost and found information.
- Communicate which team members remain on property and are available to assist with outstanding needs.
- Turn in the required water form to Guest Services.
- Print and review the closing report at the end of the day.
- Touch base with Guest Services and Management regarding the status of the department and determine whether additional assistance is needed.
- Ensure the Housekeeping Department is properly secured and prepared for the next shift.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of all housekeeping department procedures and standards.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding guest and employee information.
- Assist with special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned.
- Work cooperatively with Guest Services, Engineering, and other departments to ensure seamless guest experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; equivalent hospitality or housekeeping experience may be considered.
- Previous Supervisory experience.
- Six months of hospitality, housekeeping, hotel, resort, private club, or other applicable cleaning experience preferred.
- Ability to read, listen, understand, and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Bilingual (English /Spanish) Preferred
- Must pass a background.

Physical Requirements
- Able to stand and walk on their feet for 95% of the shift.
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10–50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Able to reach, bend, twist, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill tasks as required.
- Must be able to climb stairs with vacuum cleaner.
- Regularly lifts 25 pounds and occasionally lifts 50 pounds.
Schedule
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, mornings, evenings, and other shifts as business needs require.
