This position supports the work of the YMCA of the Rockies Estes Park Center, which operates a mission-based family and group conference center with 9 lodges, over 250 family cabins, and 9 reunion cabins. The Housekeeping Manager is primarily responsible for the cleanliness and timely availability of lodge rooms and cabins for guest occupancy, working daily with a team of 40-120 staff (varies by season). The Housekeeping Manager must coordinate with key leadership in the Housekeeping Department and the Director of Operations to plan, schedule, and administer work assignments to successfully achieve this goal. Effective communication between the Housekeeping Department and the Estes Park Center Front Desk is a key component of the Housekeeping Manager’s day-to-day responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide strong, motivational leadership to a team of 40-120 members of the Estes Park Center Housekeeping cleaning and industrial laundry staff.
  • Working with direct reports, complete and/or review weekly staffing forecasts and scheduling.
  • Plan daily, weekly, and seasonal cleaning schedules.
  • Working with the Director of Operations, use available short and long-range forecasting tools to assign and advocate for staffing levels sufficient to meet needs based on arrivals, checkouts, change overs, and stay overs.
  • Evaluate daily operations for efficiency and communicate suggestions for improvement to Director of Operations.
  • Interview, hire, set performance standards, supervise, and provide timely performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Provide oversight and direction to full-time and seasonal Crew Leaders, assisting with their supervision of seasonal staff.
  • Use available technology to quickly and efficiently communicate room status changes to the Estes Park Center Front Desk.
  • Ensure accommodation cleaning standards are met by training and using quality control techniques and evaluating performance of full-time, year-round Crew Leaders, seasonal Crew Leaders, and full-time, year-round self-checking housekeepers.
  • Assist with training all new seasonal housekeeping staff in all accommodations, lodge rooms, cabins, and reunion cabins.
  • With the help of Housekeeping leadership staff, complete or assign daily quality inspections.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment within parameters of the Housekeeping budget, and process invoices for those purchases in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all machinery, chemicals, and vehicles are properly operated and maintained.
  • Ensure safe practices and procedures are followed for chemicals, biohazards, and machinery, including the industrial laundry facility.
  • Assist with inspections and cleaning responsibilities as needed, including at times, leading a housekeeping crew.
  • Oversee all Housekeeping cleaning operations.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of management experience in the hospitality industry or a related field.
  • Experience in purchasing and inventory management.
  • Experience in creating and evaluating cleaning process to ensure high levels of cleanliness in guest accommodations.
  • Must be extremely organized with a focus on the details.
  • Possess a valid, USA driver license with a driving record that allows for operation of YMCA vehicles.
  • Able to operate YMCA vehicles including vans and trucks in all weather conditions and on variable terrain.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) helpful but not mandatory.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Position operates primarily indoors within guest lodges and cabins.
  • May require moving between buildings in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to move about the property frequently throughout the day.
  • Requires standing for extended periods, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, and lifting or moving items up to 30 pounds.
  • Work environment is fast-paced and may include exposure to cleaning chemicals.
  • Noise level is typically moderate and consistent with normal housekeeping operations.
  • Must follow all YMCA safety standards and policies while performing duties.
