Purpose of the department:

The purpose of the housekeeping department is to ensure that the hotel is clean, well-maintained, and comfortable for guests. The housekeeping department is responsible for cleaning and maintaining guest rooms, common areas, and back-of-house areas such as staff rooms and storage areas. The housekeeping department plays a crucial role in ensuring that the hotel meets or exceeds guest expectations for cleanliness and service, which can impact guest satisfaction and the hotel's reputation and profitability. The department works closely with other hotel departments such as front desk, maintenance, and food and beverage to ensure that guest needs are met and that the hotel operates smoothly and efficiently.

Job Profile:

A house-person, also known as houseman/house-woman is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and comfortable environment for guests in the Resort. Some of the key responsibilities of a house-person include:

Cleaning and maintaining guest rooms and public areas This involves making roll-a-way and sofa beds, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, scrubbing maintaining corridors, cleaning public restrooms, trash and linen removal, deep cleaning and restocking linen rooms.

Ensure guest satisfaction: House-persons must ensure that guests have everything they need during their stay and respond quickly to any requests or complaints.

Follow safety and security procedures: This includes locking doors and windows, reporting any suspicious activity, and following proper cleaning protocols to prevent the spread of germs and disease.

Maintain inventory House-persons are responsible for keeping track of cleaning supplies, equipment, and other tools needed to maintain cleanliness of the resort.

Communicate with other hotel tem members House-persons must work closely with other hotel team members, such as front desk agents and maintenance workers, to ensure that guest needs are met and the resort runs smoothly.

Overall, a house-person plays a critical role in ensuring that guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. This job requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Education, technical knowledge and skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in housekeeping or related field is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to use hotel provided electronic devices, including but not limited to, radios, cell phones, and tablets.
  • Move, lift, carry, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 55 pounds without assistance and in excess of 55 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to push and pull a loaded housekeeping cart, laundry trolleys, and other work-related machinery over sloping and uneven surfaces.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Stand, sit, kneel, or walk for an extended period across an entire work shift.
  • Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Overall, the competencies of a house-person involve a combination of cleaning and sanitation knowledge, attention to detail, time management, customer service, communication, physical fitness, and safety and security. These competencies enable a house-person to perform their job duties effectively and provide excellent service to guests.

Physical fitness: This position requires a lot of physical activity including but not limited to the ability to:

  • Move, lift, carry, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 55 pounds without assistance and in excess of 55 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to push and pull a loaded housekeeping cart and other work-related machinery over sloping and uneven surfaces.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Stand, sit, kneel, or walk for an extended period across an entire work shift.

Dependability: House-person must be reliable and trustworthy. They are required show up to work on time and consistently perform their duties to the best of their abilities.

Attention to detail: House-person must pay close attention to detail to ensure their area of responsibility is thoroughly cleaned and to the satisfaction of guests.

Positive attitude/ Customer service skills: House-persons must maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor, as they interact with guests during their cleaning duties. House-persons are an important part of creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for guests.

Communication skills: House-persons must be able to communicate effectively with other hotel team members, such as front desk agents and maintenance workers.

Time management skills: House-persons must be able to manage their time efficiently to complete cleaning tasks within a given timeframe.

Cleaning and sanitation A House-person must have a thorough understanding of cleaning and sanitation practices including but not limited to:

  • Proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Proper cleaning and disinfection of surfaces
  • Proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Preventing the spread of germs and disease.

Safety and security: A house-person must understand and follow safety and security procedures to ensure the safety of guests, themselves, and other hotel team members.
