Job Description

General Purpose

The Housekeeper plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, warm, and orderly environment for residents, staff, and visitors during the fall season and throughout the year. This position ensures that all areas of the facility are free of autumn debris, drafts, odors, and seasonal hazards, contributing to the overall health, safety, and comfort of those in our care.

Essential Duties

  • Clean and maintain public and common areas including lobbies, entryways, restrooms, drinking fountains, and floors.
  • Ensure resident rooms and bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and kept cozy and comfortable.
  • Sweep, mop, and clear entryways and high-traffic floors regularly to prevent slips and track-in from fall weather, leaves, mud, and moisture.
  • Wipe down handrails, ledges, and surfaces to keep them free of dust, allergens, and debris.
  • Remove dirt, dust, and food from walls, mirrors, windows, light fixtures, towel bars, and dispensers.
  • Empty trash cans and replace liners as needed.
  • Follow seasonal safety protocols, including using wet-floor caution signage during rain or autumnal weather, and storing cleaning chemicals securely.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and use supplies according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Keep housekeeping carts, equipment, and storage areas clean, organized, and sanitary.
  • Report any resident safety concerns, seasonal maintenance needs, or cold-weather drafts immediately to the Director of Housekeeping, Administrator, or Director of Nursing.
  • Notify the Director of Housekeeping when supplies need replenishment.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, warmth, and a positive attitude with residents and families.
  • Manage time effectively and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to meet facility standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous housekeeping experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting is a plus.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and understand procedure, instruction, and safety manuals.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle concrete variables in situations where standard routines may vary.
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Repetitive motion tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and wiping surfaces.
  • Regular operation of floor care and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment and adapt to seasonal facility needs.

Dayshift $11 - $15 an hour
