What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The Housekeepers Team Leader ensures the cleanliness of ICRC premises including laundry work by providing housekeeping services and supervising a team of housekeepers.

Accountabilities & functional responsibilities

  • Supervises housekeeping staff assigned to ICRC premises and provides basic training.
  • Supervising the cleaning and laundry work.
  • Coordinates and manages the housekeeping team in charge of keeping ICRC premises clean.
  • Supports the maintenance, logistics and other departments in a variety of handy tasks when assigned to the office.
  • Identifies staff development needs and ensures appropriate training is delivered.
  • Resolves minor issues related to premises or materials and escalates more significant concerns to supervisors.
  • Ensure staff under their supervision perform duties safely, with proper conditions and adequate resources.
  • Performs Housekeeping work when and if required
  • Organizes work effectively and optimizes the use of available resources.
  • Performs cleaning material purchases
  • May be requested to coach and supervise housekeepers under Aden AoR (Turba - Mokha - Aldhalea - Marib)

Relationships

  • Internally, interacts with other ICRC employees and/or the users of ICRC premises.
  • No external relationships.

Certifications / Education required

  • High School level
  • Intermediate knowledge of English written and spoken
  • People management experience.
  • Good physical condition
  • Flexibility, able to work in stressful situations with extensive working hours
  • Knowledge of basic hygiene principles.
  • Excellent communication skills.

People management responsibilities

  • Understands and supervises the Performance Management & Development (PMD) activities for employees under their supervision
  • Organizes regular meetings within their team to ensure optimal coordination of the work and proper flow of information
  • Plans and coordinates for the annual leave of the employees under their supervision

Professional experience required

  • Over 2 years of experience as a housekeeping team leader.
  • Knowledge of basic hygiene principles.

  • Type of contract: Resident (Open to Yemeni Nationals ONLY)
  • Working rate: 100%
  • Location: Aden
  • Length of assignment: One year fixed term contract, renewable based on performance and budget availability
