Job Title: Household Manager & Family Assistant with Childcare & Meal Prep

Location: Ghent, NY 12075

Employment Type: Part-Time | 24–32 hours per week, with 24 hours guaranteed.

There is potential for the role to grow in hours and responsibility over time, with the possibility of eventually becoming full-time.

Schedule: 3 days per week, with Mondays required. The remaining 2 days will fall on Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday based on the family’s needs and candidate availability. Additional flexibility for occasional date night coverage and pet care while the family is traveling is appreciated.

Compensation: $35 – $40 per hour

Start Date: ASAP

• Reliable personal vehicle required; mileage reimbursement provided for work-related errands.
• CPR and First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain prior to start).
• Ability to navigate a spiral staircase regularly as part of daily duties.

About Our Family

We’re a busy, creative household settled on a quiet property in the Hudson Valley— wide open land, fresh air, and a whole lot of life happening under one roof. Our family moves at a lively, free-flowing pace: one parent works in a fast-moving creative industry with a schedule that can change week to week, while the other is a working artist who needs uninterrupted stretches of time to focus and create. We have two children—an elementary-schooler and a toddler—who fill our home with energy, joy, and the occasional mess, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

More than anything, we want to be able to be fully present with our family and our work, which means having someone we trust to take ownership of the day-to-day household rhythm. This role is centered around helping keep the home running smoothly — resetting spaces, staying on top of laundry, helping with meal prep, organizing, and noticing what needs to be done before it becomes a problem. We’re looking for someone who enjoys creating order within a busy household and takes pride in making life easier for the family as a whole.

While the role is primarily focused on household support, we also want someone who is comfortable jumping in with the kids when that is simply part of the flow of the day. Flexibility matters to us, and we value someone who can move naturally between responsibilities without feeling overly tied to a rigid checklist.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support

• School pickups after school; flexibility for drop-offs on an occasional basis
• Transport children to after-school activities as needed
• Provide 2–3 hours of dedicated, hands-on care for the toddler, 3 days per week
• Provide childcare for one or both children during the day as needed
• Occasional date night coverage
• Support with kid-related errands (diapers, supplies, reorders as needed)
• Encourage children participation in age-appropriate household tasks

Household Organization & Maintenance

• Create and maintain household organization systems
• Daily resets, with extra care and focus in the kitchen
• Light tidying throughout the day: dishes, surfaces, vacuuming high-traffic areas
• Coordinate with and prep for the weekly cleaning team including washing linens before they arrive, communicating what areas need deeper cleaning that week, etc.
• Manage indoor plant care
• Handle household upkeep tasks: changing batteries, light bulbs, smoke detectors

Inventory & Errands

• Own and manage all household supply lists: pantry, fridge, and household essentials
• Handle recurring household orders and subscriptions when needed (Amazon, Costco, Target, and similar)
• Manage returns, mail, and package handling from start to finish
• Break down boxes and handle trash and recycling runs to the end of the driveway
• Coordinate and handle errands

Meal Support

• Batch-cook lunches ready to go approximately 3 days per week
• Prep or fully cook dinner approximately 3 nights per week so the family can heat and serve or finish quickly
• Prep vegetables and key ingredients on days the family wants to cook themselves
• Take full ownership of big-box grocery shopping
• Coordinate specialty sourcing from local farm vendors, co-op, and specialty markets the family uses
• Accommodate gluten-free dietary needs for two family members; focus on healthy, nutritious meals for the whole household
• Daily kitchen cleanup and maintenance

Laundry & Linens

• Full ownership of all laundry: wash, dry, fold, organize, and put away
• Weekly linen rotation and fresh sheet changes for all beds
• Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked

Vendor & Property Oversight

• Serve as the point of contact for vendors: weekly cleaners, pool maintenance, landscapers, alarm company, energy provider, and other service providers
• Support with a larger home renovation project anticipated in the coming year
• Research and coordinate repairs and quotes as needed

Pet Care

• Vet and grooming scheduling and transport
• Maintain pet supplies

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

• Periodic deep cleaning: fridge, oven, baseboards
• Clean humidifiers and air purifiers
• Tackle organizational projects: basement clean out, closets, pantry, toys, gear
• Coordinate donation drop-offs

Vehicle Upkeep

• Schedule and transport family vehicles to the dealership for maintenance
• Handle cleaning and organizing family vehicles
• Track registration and insurance renewals

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

• Build and actively maintain a shared household calendar: children's activities, appointments, school events, travel schedules, vendor visits, etc.
• Handle administrative calls on behalf of the household
