About Our Family

We are a busy, high-energy household of six with four school-age kids and one very enthusiastic large dog. Both parents work full-time in demanding careers that often extend beyond regular hours, and the week rarely slows down. Between four different school schedules, a packed extracurricular calendar, and a nearby rental property we manage ourselves, there is always something in motion.

We run a warm but structured home. The kids are expected to pull their weight — packing their own lunches, doing their own laundry, and cleaning up after themselves — and we need someone who will hold that line with them, not do it for them. We have found our groove with household systems and just need the right person to step in, learn how things are done, and keep things running smoothly when we cannot be in two places at once.

We value professionalism, honesty, and a sense of humor. This is a job, and we treat it that way — we want someone who does too. We recently relocated and are building something great here. If you are the kind of person who thrives in a lively, real-life household and knows how to de-escalate a sibling argument with calm rather than chaos, you will fit right in. We also have a large, lovable dog who is full of energy and personality — someone who genuinely enjoys dogs is a must.

Who You Are / What We're Looking For

  • Experienced working in a real, busy household — not a quiet one; you know what it looks like when kids come home from different schools at different times and you do not blink.
  • Grounded and patient, with the confidence to hold household rules with kids in a firm but warm way.
  • Operates with common sense and takes pride in doing things right — yes, that means knowing which fabrics cannot go in the dryer.
  • Maintains professional boundaries within the household and around the family.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable navigating shared household apps and calendars (Cozi app, Skylight calendar, shared apple notes, etc.) without hand-holding.
  • Communicates clearly and honestly — you’ll tell us when something is not working, and we will do the same. Comfortable texting / calling directly with teens.
  • Self-directed — anticipate what needs to be done in the house and follow through without reminders.
  • Confident and unfazed around large, energetic dogs.
  • Comfortable in a busy household — able to thrive around noise, sibling dynamics, changing schedules, and the everyday energy of a large family.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support & Child Assistance

  • Be present after school approximately 2:40–3:45 PM as the responsible adult in the home and pick up from school when necessary
  • Provide light supervision: ensure homework is happening, lunchboxes are emptied, and kids are following through on their responsibilities
  • Coach and reinforce household rules — not enable avoidance of them
  • Drive younger children to and from activities, appointments, and errands as needed
  • Weekly backpack paper sort with kids to keep the entryway organized
  • Assist with gift shopping for kids' events, teacher appreciation, and class gifts

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Maintain and support existing household organization systems; identify gaps and suggest improvements
  • Daily light tidying: dishes, surfaces, and high-traffic areas between bi-weekly cleanings
  • Manage indoor plants
  • Change light bulbs, batteries, smoke detectors, and air purifier filters as needed
  • Run appliance maintenance cycles as scheduled
  • Seasonal clothing audits: flag items that need to be sized up and coordinate donation drop-offs for outgrown items
  • Holiday decorating support

Inventory & Errands

  • Manage pantry and household supply restocking (cleaning products, toiletries, paper goods, etc.)
  • Grocery shopping using the family's preferred stores and the Cozi app; manage fridge and pantry inventory with attention to produce freshness
  • Handle household orders (Amazon, Costco, Target) and manage returns
  • Dry cleaning pickup and drop-off (approximately bi-weekly)
  • Mail and package handling; break down and recycle boxes

Meal Support

  • Dinner prep: chopping, assembling, and basic cooking so dinner is easy to finish or serve when parents are home
  • Ensure lunch-assembly ingredients are stocked and prepped (kids pack their own lunches)
  • Keep the kitchen clean and organized
  • Shop for / select fresh produce with confidence
  • Follow recipes as needed; help with meal planning ideas is welcome

Laundry & Linen Care

  • Manage linen rotation: bedding and towels on a regular schedule
  • Assist with laundering clothing as needed; Handle delicates with care; use steam closet appropriately (no high heat on delicates)
  • Encourage and coach kids to do their own laundry; reinforce the routine rather than doing it for them
  • Keep laundry areas tidy and well stocked

Pet Care

  • Walk the dog and let her outside throughout the day
  • Maintain pet food supply and household pet needs
  • Schedule and transport to vet and grooming appointments as needed
  • Occasional dog-sitting during family travel (optional)

Vehicle Upkeep

  • Schedule oil changes and take the family vehicle to appointments
  • Coordinate occasional car washes
  • Schedule and oversee seasonal vehicle maintenance as needed

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Tackle occasional deep-clean tasks (2–3 times per year): fridge shelves, oven, baseboards, patio and patio cushions
  • Manage infrequent maintenance tasks: counter sealing, garage door lubrication
  • Swap air purifier filters and run humidifier/appliance cleaning cycles
  • Refresh garage, mudroom, and entry areas as needed

Vendor & Property Oversight

  • Research and coordinate repair quotes for the main home and a nearby rental property as needed
  • Schedule and oversee seasonal maintenance (HVAC scheduling, sprinkler set-up/turn-off, etc.) for both properties
  • Serve as liaison for vendors, contractors, and service providers
  • Manage outdoor spaces (sweep patio, brush off cushions, etc.) and ensure seasonal upkeep

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

  • Oversee the household calendar via Skylight and Cozi apps
  • Help coordinate kids' appointments and activity logistics
  • Assist with travel planning and coordinate logistics for home care while family is away
