Location: The Information School, Mary Gates Hall

Position Title: Hourly Student Receptionist and Office Assistant – Office of Student Services

Anticipated Start Date: 09/21/2026

End Date06/15/2027

Approximate number of hours:Up to 15 hours per week. Must have availability to work between 10:00am – 4:00pm on weekdays.


The Information School’s Office of Student Services seeks a UW student to provide front desk reception and general office assistance for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reception coverage (answering phones, greeting/directing walk-in students and visitors, checking students in for appointments, answering general questions)
  • Provide excellent customer service as the first point of contact for iSchool visitors. Answer questions and triage to an appropriate staff member
  • Edit/update materials in Canva
  • Photocopying and scanning
  • Monitoring/restocking supplies
  • Manage documents (paper and electronic)
  • Maintain 4th floor signage and bulletin boards
  • Running occasional errands on campus
  • Under the direction of direct supervisor support academic program staff with project support and event preparation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled University of Washington student
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook)
  • Must be highly organized, punctual, and reliable
  • Able to work collaboratively and independently
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Able to multi-task and/or prioritize multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity
  • For positions that meet one or more of the security/safety sensitive criteria, offers of student employment must be made contingent on obtaining a satisfactory criminal conviction background result for the candidate

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior office, reception and/or customer service experience
  • Experience with relational databases or CRMs such as Slate, Salesforce, etc.
  • Experience with design software (Adobe Illustrator, Canva, or similar)

Compensation
$21.76-$22.58 per hour depending on experience
