Job Description

Colwen Hotels is seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Finance to lead the financial operations for The Framingham Collection, consisting of the Renaissance Framingham Hotel & Conference Center, Fairfield Inn by Marriott Framingham, and TownePlace Suites by Marriott Framingham.

This is a unique opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys both the strategic and operational sides of hotel accounting. This is a one-person property-level finance department, so this role is very much a roll-up-your-sleeves position. The Director of Finance will not simply oversee the work. They will be responsible for performing the day-to-day accounting functions while also serving as a key financial partner to the General Managers and hotel leadership teams.

From accounts receivable and accounts payable to payroll review, month-end responsibilities, forecasting and financial analysis, this position requires someone who is comfortable owning the details while also seeing the bigger financial picture.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the day-to-day accounting and financial functions for all three hotels within The Framingham Collection
  • Ensure compliance with property internal controls, Colwen Hotels SOPs, GAAP, USALI, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements
  • Manage daily accounting processes and ensure accurate and timely reporting of hotel revenues, including verification of deposits and cash activity
  • Handle the full Accounts Receivable process, from invoice preparation through collections and follow-up
  • Manage Accounts Payable processes, including new vendor setup, vendor statement review, and timely invoice processing through Ottimate
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting on month-end close, general ledger activity, and preparation of Profit & Loss statements
  • Analyze financial performance and provide meaningful commentary and recommendations to improve profitability
  • Provide General Managers and department leaders with financial insight related to labor, forecasting, budgeting, expenses, and overall hotel performance
  • Review employee timekeeping and tip processing, make necessary edits, and work with department leaders to ensure timecards are accurate and approved for payroll
  • Maintain oversight and accurate reconciliation of house funds, hotel banks, daily cash deposits, and cashier variances
  • Assist hotel teams in resolving guest billing questions and discrepancies
  • Prepare and review financial and operational reports, including P&L reporting, payroll, forecasting, and capital planning
  • Participate as a member of the hotel leadership team and attend business and operational meetings as needed
  • Maintain strong internal controls and safeguard hotel assets
  • Perform other related duties as needed

What We’re Looking For

This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable being both the leader of the finance function and the person doing the work. You should enjoy digging into the numbers, solving problems, working independently, and partnering directly with hotel operations.

  • 5+ years of hotel accounting experience at the Accounting Manager, Controller, or comparable level
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and USALI
  • Experience with hotel PMS, POS, accounting, and payroll systems
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, ProfitSword, Ottimate, and/or UKG preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate financial results into actionable information for hotel leaders
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and consistently meet deadlines
  • Resourceful, self-directed, and comfortable working independently
  • Willingness to jump in and handle the day-to-day work in a fast-paced hotel environment
  • Flexibility to work additional hours or weekends when business needs require
