About the role

We are seeking experienced and safety-driven Hot Work Supervisors to join the AMPOL Lytton Refinery Shutdown

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing hot work activities (welding, cutting, grinding) in a live refinery environment, ensuring all work is executed safely, in compliance with strict permit-to-work (PTW) systems and hazard controls

Shutdown duration: Mid July to end of September 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate hot work in hazardous refinery environments
  • Manage and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) systems, including:
    • Hot Work Permits
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Isolation and LOTO processes
  • Verify field conditions including:
    • Gas testing (LEL, O₂, H₂S, CO)
    • Atmospheric safety and ignition risk
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • JSA/JHA and SWMS requirements
    • Refinery procedures and safety standards
  • Lead daily toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety interventions
  • Provide visible leadership and confidently stop work if unsafe conditions arise
  • Coordinate across operations, maintenance, and contractor teams during SIMOPS

About You

  • Proven experience as a Hot Work Supervisor in high-risk industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Major Hazard Facility (MHF) risks
    • Hazardous area controls and ignition risk management
  • Advanced capability in:
    • Permit-to-work systems (PTW)
    • Gas testing and atmospheric monitoring
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Lead teams under pressure in shutdown environments
    • Enforce safety standards and challenge unsafe behaviours
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across multiple stakeholders

Previous experience in a refinery shutdown environment or oil & gas shutdowns is highly desirable

Mandatory Requirements

  • Trade qualification (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Construction White Card
  • Working at Heights
  • Confined Space Entry

Highly Regarded

  • Refinery / petrochemical / oil & gas shutdown experience
  • Permit Issuer / Permit Authority training
  • Breathing Apparatus competency
  • Fire Watch / industrial firefighting training
  • Strong understanding of isolations (LOTO, blind/spade, DBB)
  • Advanced confined space and shutdown coordination experience
  • Exposure to SIMOPS and hazardous area classifications (Zone 0/1/2)
  • Gas Test Atmospheres certification
