The Hospital Service Representative (HSR) is responsible for performing distribution functions during their assigned shift. Under direct supervision, this position ensures accuracy of all unit transactions and adheres to all regulations and procedures governing the issuance, storage, and transportation of blood products.
The HSR exemplifies and champions Carter BloodCare (CBC) Core Values and Code of Conduct, and adhering to CBC policies and applicable departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). To support ongoing development and organizational goals, the HSR is required to attend meetings and training sessions, as assigned.
Regular travel between assigned work areas to support other locations/projects in Texoma and North Texas is required. A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record (as specified in the current Vehicle Safety Loss Control Guidelines) are required.
This position may require working varied shifts, extended hours, weekends, and/or overtime to support operational needs. Regular full-time attendance is required during normal working hours.
QualificationsEDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 1 year of driving experience, preferably in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex
- Minimum of 6 months of experience with direct customer service interactions
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Some experience with computers, printers, and cellular phones
- Good English communication skills (Verbal and written)
- Ability and aptitude to learn computer-based blood banking and/or inventory management software and programs
- Working knowledge of area highways, freeways, major thoroughfares, and alternate routes to various areas
- Ability and aptitude to learn applicable, regulatory standards and regulations associated with the distribution, storage, and transportation of blood products
PHYSICAL/MENTAL STRESS FACTORS
- Driving throughout the metroplex service region up to 11 hours daily
- Stress associated with ensuring the completion of federally regulated unit manipulations/transactions without error, multiple times each day
- Stress associated with handling and packing blood products in compliance with applicable regulations and procedures
- Ability to routinely move blood transport containers weighing up to 40 pounds; Ability to move oneself in the course of actual delivery to hospital blood bank laboratories
- Routine stress associated with the life/death consequences determined by the quality of performance.
- Stress and risk associated with periodic handling of bio-hazardous material
- Ability to stay calm and on task in high-stress situations
