This is a full-time FLEX position with a 7 on / 7 off schedule consisting of 12-hour day shifts (7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.). The position includes approximately 14 shifts per month, with assignments across multiple Wake Region Hospital Medicine locations based on operational needs.
Pay Range:
$54.90 - $82.35

The Wake Hospital Medicine team is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our FLEX Hospital Medicine team, providing inpatient coverage across multiple Wake Region medical centers.
Position Details
Full-time FLEX position.
7 on / 7 off schedule with 12-hour day shifts (7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.).
Approximately 14 shifts per month.
Provides inpatient coverage across the following Wake Region Hospital Medicine locations:
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center – Winston-Salem
High Point Medical Center – High Point
Lexington Medical Center – Lexington
Davie Medical Center – Bermuda Run
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to provide comprehensive inpatient adult medicine care.
Assignment to services and locations is based on departmental and operational needs.
Experience Required
Nurse Practitioners
Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Master’s degree or higher required.
Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) certification through AANP or ANCC required.
Current North Carolina RN and NP licensure.
Prior inpatient provider experience required.
BLS and ACLS certifications required.
Physician Assistants
Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Master’s degree preferred.
Current North Carolina PA license.
NCCPA certification required.
Prior inpatient provider experience required.
BLS and ACLS certifications required.
The FLEX Advanced Practice Provider delivers comprehensive inpatient care while providing staffing support across multiple Wake Region Hospital Medicine locations. This role partners with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care, operational flexibility, and exceptional patient outcomes.
Essential Functions
Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations.
Independently evaluate and manage hospitalized adult medicine patients.
Round on assigned patients and manage admissions, consultations, and transfers as appropriate.
Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.
Perform perioperative management and pre-operative risk assessments for orthopedic and surgical patients when assigned to the Orthopedic Co-Management service.
Order and interpret laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic studies.
Coordinate care with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, case management, specialists, and ancillary departments.
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and discharge planning.
Conduct family meetings as appropriate regarding treatment plans and discharge planning.
Respond to Rapid Response and Code events for assigned patients.
Staff patients with supervising physicians and communicate significant clinical updates throughout the shift.
Provide comprehensive handoff to the oncoming provider at the end of each shift.
Perform procedures within departmental and credentialing guidelines.
Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research opportunities, and learner education as available.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Frequent walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
Must be able to lift and support up to 35 pounds while assisting with patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
Must possess intact vision, hearing, smell, touch, and fine motor dexterity.
Must communicate effectively in English.
Must be able to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity clinical environment.
