Position Summary

Cultivate the landscapes, gardens, and growing environments that help shape the experience of Nemacolin. As a Horticulture Intern, you will gain hands-on experience across ornamental horticulture, hydroponic food production, interior plantscapes, organic gardening, agronomy, and resort grounds operations, while seeing how thoughtful cultivation contributes to both the beauty of the property and the culinary experiences enjoyed by guests. This paid, 12-week internship places you alongside experienced horticulture and agronomy professionals in a Forbes-rated luxury resort, giving you the opportunity to develop practical skills, contribute to meaningful property projects, and explore the many career paths within horticulture and agronomy.

What You Will Create

  • Exceptional landscapes and seasonal experiences by contributing to the design and installation of annual attractions, helping transform the property through thoughtfully planned horticultural displays that complement the resort environment
  • Fresh, property-grown ingredients for resort dining by supporting the production and harvest of produce cultivated for restaurant outlets, connecting horticultural craftsmanship directly to the culinary experience
  • Beautifully maintained gardens and outdoor spaces through hands-on care, developing an understanding of the precision and consistency required to maintain a luxury property
  • Healthy, productive organic gardens by contributing to watering, pruning, transplanting, weeding, seeding, harvesting, and sanitation practices that support successful vegetable production
  • Thriving interior landscapes by caring for interior plants throughout the resort and helping preserve the polished, welcoming environments that guests experience across the property
  • Thoughtful plant health and sustainability practices through exposure to Integrated Pest Management and industry-leading maintenance techniques, equipment, and horticultural practices
  • A well-rounded foundation in resort horticulture by rotating through key areas of the department, including ornamentals, hydroponic food production, interior plantscapes, and additional horticultural disciplines
  • Accurate horticultural records by maintaining waterlogs and plant maintenance documentation that support consistent care, informed decision-making, and long-term plant health

What You Can Expect

  • A 12-week, full-time paid internship, with consecutive participation expected throughout the program
  • An immersive learning environment within a Forbes-rated luxury resort, where horticulture contributes to the visual character, culinary offerings, and overall guest experience
  • Hands-on mentorship from experienced horticulture and agronomy professionals who can help you connect academic knowledge with the realities of professional resort operations
  • Rotational exposure to multiple horticultural disciplines, giving you the opportunity to explore potential career paths in horticulture, agronomy, greenhouse management, food production, landscape operations, and hospitality
  • A physically active role with meaningful time spent working outdoors in varying weather conditions, along with opportunities to work within interior plant environments and specialized production areas
  • Exposure to industry-leading maintenance practices and equipment, including opportunities to strengthen your knowledge of equipment operation, agronomy, plant care, and resort grounds operations
  • A dynamic resort schedule that may include varying hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the continuous nature of property operations
  • Professional experiences designed to strengthen your résumé, expand your industry network, and provide practical knowledge you can carry into future horticulture, agriculture, and hospitality opportunities

What You Bring

  • A genuine appreciation for plants, landscapes, agriculture, and the role horticulture plays in creating memorable environments
  • A strong work ethic and the willingness to embrace hands-on work, changing conditions, and the physical demands of professional horticultural operations
  • Dependability and personal accountability, with pride in showing up prepared and contributing consistently to the team
  • A positive, professional attitude and the ability to work collaboratively with experienced horticulture and agronomy professionals
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn across multiple areas of horticulture rather than limiting your experience to a single specialty
  • Attention to detail, particularly when caring for plants, maintaining gardens, recording information, and preserving the presentation of a luxury resort
  • Adaptability and resilience, with the ability to remain productive and professional while priorities, weather conditions, and operational needs change
  • Pride in personal presentation and a commitment to maintaining established appearance standards while representing a polished luxury hospitality environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required
  • Current second- or third-year student enrolled at an accredited college or university in horticulture or plant science, agricultural science, landscape architecture, hospitality management, or a related discipline

  • Fluent English language proficiency required
  • Ability to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to adhere to established appearance standards
