HORTICULTURIST

Anakeesta is a 70+ acre outdoor family adventure park overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Vista Gardens, located within Anakeesta, is a distinctive mountain garden featuring rare trees, shrubs, and vibrant seasonal plantings. The Horticulturist is responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining all plant materials, flowers, and landscape features throughout the property, preserving our natural mountain beauty while enhancing the guest experience.

Your Responsibilities

• Supervise landscape staff and assign daily tasks.

• Interview, hire, train, and evaluate team members.

• Collaborate with the landscape and maintenance teams to create a preventative maintenance program for all landscape areas.

• Design annual and perennial flowerbeds that elevate the property's overall presentation.

• Create plant beds featuring native shrubs and trees.

• Purchase plant materials within budget guidelines.

• Support and work alongside other landscape team members.

• Maintain mountain flowers, shrubs, and other native species.

• Monitor plant health; establish fertility and pesticide programs as needed.

• Implement environmental measures that protect natural resources and wildlife.

• Install, maintain, and schedule irrigation systems for all landscaped areas.

Qualifications

What You Need

• Minimum 4 years of experience in landscaping, horticulture, or a related field.

• At least 2 years of management or supervisory experience.

• Ability to read and interpret landscape plans, topographic maps, elevations, irrigation layouts, and scientific journals.

• Extensive knowledge of flora, trees, fertilizers, pesticides, and common plant diseases/fungal issues.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and occasionally taste or smell.

• May occasionally be required to sit.

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.

• Regular exposure to extreme weather conditions including summer heat and winter cold.
