The Division of Administration/Office of State Buildings has a vacancy. This job title has an assigned pay grade of WS-211.

Position requires experience in grounds maintenance with specific experience in tree prunning and equipment use. Operate the following equipment: chain saw, tractors, skid steer loader, fork lift, high pressure sprayer, lawn mower, edger, gas hedge trimmer, weed trimmer, pick-up truck, stake body truck, manlift, blower and any other equipment necessary to complete the task. Supervise Horticulyural Attendant Leader will require experience with grounds maintenance in the care and maintenance of annuals, roses, shrubs, and medium level tree pruning up to 15 feet.

The Division of Administration is the state government’s management arm and the hub of its financial operations. Division offices perform a wide variety of activities including the following:

  • Overseeing the state’s capital construction program
  • Working to provide state and federal grants for community development
  • Development of the state budget
  • Providing technology services
  • Giving agencies guidance in the state purchasing and contracting process as they seek goods and services
  • Administering a program that provides federal funds to help Louisiana residents recover from a series of devastating hurricanes

Examples of duties

Two years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR

Twelve semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Pruning of smaller trees with a manlift or from the ground with manual or power pole saws. Pruning to provide clearance for pedestrians and mowers. Provide better air circulation of shrubs and trees by maintaining an air space from the buildings and thinning of canopies. Fertilizing small to medium trees. Applying insecticides, herbicides as well as disease control sprays. Recording of all chemicals utilized, the rate and where applied.
  • Pruning of landscape bed shrubs by hand or hedging rows of shrubs with a power trimmer. Knowing proper cultural practices and general pruning techniques.
  • Installing small shrubs and ground covers where needed to freshen existing or new landscape areas. Being able to dig holes and plant shrubs up to 25 gallon size.
  • Driving a stack body truck requiring a class 'D' chauffer's license. Removing debris and clippings generated through the course of assigned work. Gathering into large trucks that will be emptied at the landfill.
  • Reporting of any findings within the Capitol Park. Reporting to your supervisor and flagging any irrigation issues. Reporting any dead plant materials and/or trees. Reporting any findings covering shrubs and annuals.
  • Perform any necessary work to maintain the State office buildings to uphold the agency. Attend any safety meetings. Take all required courses online from the State system computers. Request all leave from State system computers. Confirm all time on the computer for paychecks in a timely fashion and by deadlines designated.
