Job Description

A family of four (2 parents, 2 children ages 8 and 11) in Los Altos, CA are looking for an experienced household manager to take ownership of the operations and coordination of their home. They already have wonderful people—a nanny, cleaners, gardeners, and tutors—and need someone to oversee and connect it all so the day-to-day no longer runs through them. This role can be part-time or full-time, but their preference is for part-time. They will pivot the role to full-time if the fit is excellent. They are looking for someone whose core strength is house management. Vendor sourcing and judgment, running household systems, catching what needs attention before being asked. This person does not need a prior "house manager" title. Someone who ran their own business, or managed a busy household of their own, or worked as a strong office or operations admin could be excellent. What matters is that they can see the whole picture and take ownership, not wait to be told what to do. The role starts ASAP.

Responsibilities

• Taking ownership of their calendars, appointments, and travel
• Sourcing, vetting, and managing vendors, with the judgment to distinguish necessary work from an upsell
• Keeping the household running smoothly and noticing what needs attention before they have to ask
• Directing their existing household team and maintaining clear standards
• Mail, forms, school paperwork, and household administration

• They are looking for someone to handle the coordination layer, not the execution layer: they already have someone handling daily tasks and child pickups, and they need the person above that. The role covers household scheduling, vendors and home maintenance, travel, household systems and accounts, children's schedules, and supervising existing staff with a real reporting line. They're looking for someone who runs a household rather than works in it: organized, discreet, and able to use good judgment without checking in first. On-site through a 60 to 90 day ramp, then open to a hybrid schedule. This is not a nanny role and does not involve primary childcare.

Requirements

• You’d be a great fit if you’ve run a busy household before, bring order to many moving parts, and can be trusted to make sound decisions independently
• You’re excellent with vendors and systems, discreet with a family’s private life, and comfortable with the digital side of household management, including accounts, portals, and scheduling tools
• A reliable car and clean driving record are required; candidate to hire will be reimbursed per IRS gas mileage reimbursement standards
• Because you’ll be part of their household, they’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being around children and would be warm and willing to help in a rare, unexpected situation, for example, giving a child a ride or staying with them briefly until a parent is available

Salary and Benefits

• Compensation: it will be salary depending on experience, plus benefits. The role will begin primarily on-site in Los Altos, CA, with some flexibility in structure after the initial ramp-up to be hybrid. Each candidate can input their requested salary upon applying.
