About the Role

You will be an important member of our clinical team by ensuring the delivery of high-quality person-centred care to all patients. You will work within multi-disciplinary teams to provide effective and efficient evidence-based care, whilst also demonstrating commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

These positions are aimed at HMOs who are considering Emergency Medicine as a career.

The positions involve 6 months Emergency and 6 months in other critical care rotations in intensive care and/or Anaesthesia. Rotation through the Emergency Department will be in either term 1 or term 2 to enable you to gain experience and suitable referees should you plan on applying for the training program. There will also be an opportunity to rotate to our rural Secondment Hospital Warrnambool.

Classifications for this position will range from HM13 – HM18 ($98,224.88 - $149,885.84) per annum, pro-rata for part-time.

  • Ability to manage time effectively, organising daily workload through prioritisation, and demonstrate punctuality
  • Use the principles of evidence-based practice, and access relevant current literature in making assessments and formulating management decisions
  • Recognise the ethical complexity of medical practice, and follow professional and ethical codes
  • Provide clear and comprehensive handover information to senior clinicians, colleagues, nurses and allied health professionals
  • Respect the leadership role and the varied other roles and responsibilities within a team


About the Emergency Department

Based in an innercity location, the Emergency Department provides all tertiary level adult services (except Major Trauma and Obstetrics & Gynaecology).

  • >50,000 patient presentations per year, with a 40% admission rate.
  • St Vincent’s Simulation and Education Centre: some of the best simulation in Australia with frequent access; both clinical and OSCE-focused.
  • The Emergency Practice Innovation Centre (EPICentre) and Head of Research are available to assist with research and research training requirement

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
